Liverpool deal scrapped

Ajax have confirmed that Liverpool midfielder James McConnell's loan move has been terminated.

The Dutch club said: "The administrative handling of this has been completed; the player himself had already not been part of Ajax’s selection since early January."

The 21-year-old was initially set to spend the season in Amsterdam but made just seven appearances for an Ajax side 18 points off league leaders PSV.

McConnell signed a new long-term Liverpool contract before he joined Ajax.

The Dutchman's only appearance for United this season came in the 88th minute of a win over Newcastle on Boxing Day.

Liverpool to hold Villa talks

Liverpool and Aston Villa will sit down to discuss Harvey Elliott's situation at Villa Park.

The terms of the agreement could be changed with Elliott having had little game time at Villa.

Part of the reason is because the Villans will automatically trigger an obligatory permanent move worth £35million if he makes a set number of appearances.

The Daily Mail say the obligation could be changed to an option, or the appearance total could be raised, to allow Elliott to get more minutes in the coming months.

There was talk that Liverpool could take over the loan deal but the Black Cats failed to find a replacement, so the Reds walked away.

Liverpool agree Jeremy Jacquet deal

Although Chelsea have been the team most strongly linked to Jeremy Jacquet, it is understood Liverpool have agreed a deal with Rennes for the French defender.

Despite their injuries, the Reds will not welcome the 20-year-old to Anfield this month.

Instead, a £55million plus £5m in add-ons agreement has been reached for Jacquet to move to Merseyside in the summer. Personal terms have already been agreed, and a medical will take place today.

It is uncertain whether Jacquet is being replaced to compete with Ibrahima Konate or replace him. His fellow Frenchman's Liverpool contract expires at the end of the season, and there has been little noise about an extension.

Chelsea could yet launch a late hijack, so the reigning English champions are eager to wrap up the transfer as quickly as possible.
