Mumbai Narendra Modi Stadium Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). Already home to three international stadiums,is set to get a fourth cricket stadium, which will see the city get a venue that matches Ahmedabad'swith a massive seating capacity of 1 lakh people and will be built by the(MCA).

According to a report by Times of India, the MCA is set to build the new venue 68 kilometers away from the Wankhede Stadium in the Thane district. The venue will be in the Amane village , which is 26 km away from Thane. The report states that the marquee venue will be built on 50 acres of open land.

The same report states that MCA has submitted the open tender floated by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to acquire the land. The city's cricketing governing body is waiting for the approval of the Maharashta government for the project.

It has also been reported that the stadium was a dream project of late MCA President Amol Kale, who passed away last month at age 47.

The development comes just a day after Maharashtra deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called for the city to have a bigger stadium following the visit of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Yashasvi Jaiswal to the state assembly after India's 2024 T20 World Cup win.

“We have one of the historic stadiums in Mumbai in the form of Wankhede stadium. Ashish ji (BCCI treasurer and BJP MLA Ashish Shelar) is here. Mumbai needs a bigger stadium than Wankhede. Therefore, in near future our chief minister will extend all possible help to MCA and BCCI. Wankhede is a historic stadium and cannot be compared to any other. But it is time to give Mumbai a stadium with a capacity of more than one lakh,” said Fadnavis.

On Thursday (July 4), Indian cricket held a massive victory parade at the Marine Drive before entering the Wankhede Stadium for a felicitation program in front of a jam-packed crowd.

Having hosted the 2011 World Cup, Wankhede only hosted the semi-finals in the 2016 T20 World Cup and 2023 World Cup as Kolkata's Eden Gardens and Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium hosted the sumit clash of the two mega events.
