Novak Djokovic came from a set down to beat Alexander Zverev to reach his 13th French Open semi-final.

Djokovic made history after beating Zverev, as he continues his bid for a 25th Grand Slam title.

This has extended his current winning streak to nine matches, carrying on from Djokovic winning the Geneva Open title.

The Serbian had to use many weapons from his arsenal to beat Zverev, with Djokovic still improving elements of his game at 38 years of age.

Novak Djokovic sends message to Alexander Zverev after knocking him out of French Open

Djokovic beat Zverev, 4-6 6-3 6-2 6-4, in three hours and 20 minutes in the night session match on Court Philippe-Chatrier.

This has extended his lead in the head-to-head over Zverev, who Djokovic was full of praise for in his on-court interview after the match.

In this interview, Djokovic claimed that Zverev had been the best player heading into their quarter-final match and wished him well for the rest of the season.

“For both players this was a fabulous atmosphere here tonight,” said Djokovic. “A very nice game. It was tactical. I tried to impose my rhythm with three or four drop shots which worked so well in this match.

“You can’t see on TV but there’s actually a lot of wind from this side, which made it really tough. You have to hit it a little harder on the ball so that can be tricky, it certainly didn’t help.

“I was a bit nervous with the pressure of it all. So many things to manage. But it was business as usual for Alex Zverev who has been the best player for the last four or five rounds and I wish him a great, great season.”

Novak Djokovic vs Jannik Sinner Head-to-head

Things will not get any easier now, as Djokovic now takes on Jannik Sinner, the world number one who is still yet to drop a set.

Although Sinner is the top seed heading into the semi-final match, Djokovic can be encouraged by the fact that he won their only previous meeting on clay.

This came at the Monte Carlo Masters in 2021, and Sinner has won their three most recent encounters that have all taken place on hard courts.

Djokovic does also have the advantage at Grand Slams, but both of his best-of-five set victories over Sinner have come at Wimbledon.

The latest chapter in the Djokovic and Sinner rivalry will take place on Friday, June 6.

Whoever wins that match will reach the French Open final and take on either Carlos Alcaraz or Lorenzo Musetti.
