Vitor Pereira vows to ditch Sean Dyche strategy after taking charge of Nottingham Forest

Vitor Pereira has checked in at Nottingham Forest with a firm message to the fans that he’s going to do things a little bit differently from Sean Dyche.

Forest sacked Dyche after a 3-1 battering from Leeds at Elland Road was followed up by a lukewarm 0-0 draw with Wolves, which left fans feeling frustrated and angry.

Evangelos Marinakis audited senior players for their opinions on Dyche, and the consensus was that his methods were dated and left them feeling frustrated.

Forest fans will hope for an immediate bounce from the new boss with big games against Fenerbahce and Liverpool to come this week.

After checking in on the training pitch for the first time, Pereira had an immediate message for the fans that he’s going to do something that Dyche didn’t to make the players feel comfortable.

It would appear that the number one thing for Pereira to change will be to make his players feel comfortable on the training ground in matches.

Clearly, the players weren’t having Dyche, and Pereira has recognised the importance of his players being onside with the strategies he brings to the City Ground.

He said in his unveiling interview on YouTube: “It’s important to believe in the work we do. We start today, we start to expand ideas. It’s important to make the players comfortable in their roles, and it’s important to win their confidence.”

One thing Forest didn’t do much of under Dyche was smile with the performances against Liverpool, Tottenham and Brentford typically followed with drab performances like the ones against Fulham, Everton twice and Leeds.

Pereira is keen to get the players enjoying playing football once again and added: “For me as a leader of the team, we need to recognise the players’ competence. We have to create team spirit because it’s important to me. A smile can be magic because this is the spirit we want.

“I want the players to enjoy the training, and we must enjoy being here, that’s the environment we want to create, and we want to be proud of.”

Pereira must now replace words with actions

Forest fans know that these players can play, with the majority of the starting eleven all players who were in place last season when the club finished seventh.

Now, the onus is on Pereira to get their morale off the floor and get them playing the sort of football that can pull Forest clear of the relegation zone.

These players haven’t become bad players, and it’s good that the new head coach recognises that the players simply need some confidence and to feel happy once again.

It’s a shame that the new boss has three tough games to start with in the Premier League, but it’s vital that points are put on the board as quickly as possible if the threat of relegation is to be averted.
