Batting superstar Virat Kohli entered his name in the history books on Sunday (May 31) by breaking the all-time record for scoring the most runs against a single bowler in one edition of the Indian Premier League. In the 2026 edition of the IPL, Kohli played four matches against Gujarat Titans and scored a total of 88 runs off Kagiso Rabada’s bowling.

He hammered the South African fast bowler for a total of 14 fours and four sixes this season and got out to him only once.

In his first match against GT, Kohli faced 11 balls bowled by Rabada and, with the help of three fours and one six, scored 22 runs.

In the reverse league match between RCB and GT in Ahmedabad on April 30, Rabada bowled eight balls to Kohli and conceded five fours before finally taking his wicket off the eighth ball.

In the first qualifier match, Kohli scored 20 runs off 12 balls bowled by Rabada.

And in the final played on May 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Kohli scored 25 runs off just six balls from the legendary South African pacer.

Rabada, who is the only non-Indian bowler to have dismissed Kohli at least five times in T20 cricket, topped the wicket-takers’ list in IPL 2026, but he failed to make any significant impact against Kohli.

In the IPL 2026 final, Kohli opened the innings for RCB in the 156-run chase and played an unbeaten knock of 75 runs off 42 balls. He hammered nine fours and three sixes for the Rajat Patidar-led side in the summit clash and helped them chase down the target in 18 overs for the loss of only five wickets.

For his superb show with the bat in the final, Kohli bagged the Player of the Match award. Kohli is the second-oldest player to win the Player of the Match award in an IPL final.

The Player of the Match award won by Kohli in the IPL 2026 final was his 22nd Player of the Match award in IPL history. No Indian player has won more Player of the Match awards in the IPL than Kohli. Rohit Sharma is second on the list with 21 Player of the Match awards.
