After the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led Afghanistan cricket team pulled off a stunning last-ball victory against England in a do-or-die ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash, former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan couldn’t contain his excitement.

Pathan, known for his admiration of the Afghan team, shared a video of himself dancing to the Bollywood song Afghan Jalebi on Instagram, celebrating Afghanistan’s hard-fought win. The clip quickly went viral, with fans loving his enthusiasm and the sheer joy he displayed for the Afghan team’s success.

Responding to Irfan’s social media post, Afghanistan’s star cricketer Rashid Khan, who shares a strong bond with the former Indian all-rounder, dropped a heart-felt comment. “Bhai jan mere baghair dance haha thank you bhai for always support and love,” he wrote.

Fans were quick to react, with one user noting, “Afghanistan ki jit par India vale bhi khush ho jate hai (Even Indians become happy when Afghanistan wins.)” Another fan said, “I was waiting for this video thanks Pathan saheb.”

Afghanistan’s cricketer Samiullah Shinwari also commented on the video, appreciating Pathan’s constant encouragement. “Thank you for always supporting from the depths of your beautiful heart,” he wrote.

This isn’t the first time Pathan has celebrated Afghanistan’s success; his dance with Rashid Khan after Afghanistan’s historic win over Pakistan in the 2023 ODI World Cup held in India had gone viral.

What happened in the Afghanistan-England match?

After choosing to bat first, Afghanistan found themselves in early trouble, losing three wickets within the first 10 overs. However, Ibrahim Zadran held firm, smashing 177 runs, setting multiple records along the way, and guiding his team to a competitive total of 325.

With the ball, Azmatullah Omarzai was the star, claiming a brilliant five-wicket haul to help Afghanistan secure a thrilling eight-run victory.

Now, in their debut Champions Trophy campaign, Afghanistan is set for a tough test against Australia in their third group-stage match, scheduled for February 28 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Pakistan’s Lahore.
