Arne Slot confirms Alexander Isak injury after Liverpool striker hauled off at half-time

Arne Slot has confirmed that Alexander Isak suffered an injury during their 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday.

The attacker started the game with Hugo Ekitike next to him, and although most thought that the Sweden international was taken off due to his underperformance, it turns out that he was actually injured.

Isak has had a far from easy time since joining Liverpool, especially since he chose to strike for the entirety of Newcastle’s pre-season.

This left Liverpool with an unfit number nine and forced them to develop a plan to get him back to his best once again.

And, just when fans thought that their £125million man was ready for action, he’s ended up in the treatment room.

Arne Slot confirms that Alexander Isak felt his groin go when playing for Liverpool

As mentioned, Isak was hooked in the 45th minute, with many thinking that it was because Ekitike had outshone him once again.

The Sweden international has already proven that he’s one of the Premier League’s best number nines after his performances with Newcastle last season.

And, although he may not have reached that level for Liverpool just yet, the fact that they chose to spend £125million on him proves that they clearly see something in him.

And now, while speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Slot has confirmed that fans may have to wait a little longer to see Isak in action again after he felt his groin go against Frankfurt.

“Hugo got a big chance and scored it, Alex got a few, unfortunately, he couldn’t score yet,” he said.

“He then had to go off because he felt his groin a little bit.

“We’ve said so many times it’s such a difficult balance to find for a player who missed three months, we try to bring him slowly. People sometimes argue with me that he could play more.

“But we’ve played him for a second time in four days and he’s had to go off, so let’s hope for the best.”

Liverpool need Alexander Isak fit as soon as possible so he and Hugo Ekitike can improve their relationship

Although Liverpool fans only got to see 45 minutes of Isak and Ekitike playing together, that first half of football more than proved that they could work together.

Both players have very similar playstyles, and while many think that this would cause some problems, it actually works out for the better.

Liverpool usually play with a front three who all stay in their set positions of left winger, striker, and right winger.

However, when playing against Frankfurt on Wednesday, without Mohamed Salah among their starting XI, the Reds’ front three were completely free-flowing, with Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai even getting involved in the action.

Isak may not have been in the best of form for Liverpool recently, but if Wednesday’s performance is anything to go by, Slot will want him back as soon as possible.

This is not only because he’s likely to become one of the Reds’ key players, but because he and Ekitike both need to figure out their relationship and how to play well with one another.
