Anthony Gordon gives immediate reaction after making Newcastle United history vs Benfica

Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon delivered arguably his best performance for the club yet in Tuesday night’s 3-0 win over Benfica in the Champions League.

Gordon scored the opener as Newcastle United beat Benfica 3-0 to record their second win of this season’s Champions League campaign.

The England international has been out of form in the Premier League this season but has saved his best performances for the European stage.

Indeed, he’s now scored four goals in this season’s tournament after bagging against Barcelona and hitting a brace against Union Saint-Gilloise.

The 24-year-old has become the first player to score in three consecutive Champions League games in Newcastle’s history, while he also recorded an assist for Harvey Barnes.

It was a fine showing, and the former Everton youngster was delighted after the game.

Gordon was asked about the game by TNT Sports and while he was delighted to have made his mark on club history, he insisted that more needed to come.

“It means everything but we need more, my ambition does not stop there.

“It’s well known I’m a very ambitious person, so I’m very proud of that but I’ve got to get more.”

Still, a deeper look into Gordon’s performance only further underlines how just impressive he was.

It’s felt like a while since Gordon consistently convinced in a Newcastle shirt but that was quite the showing.

In that kind of form, it’s difficult to imagine any defender in world football wanting to play against him. Gordon was at his menacing best on Tuesday night and long may that continue.
