In the last few days, Manchester United fans have launched an online campaign aiming to boycott the club's sponsors. The club recently announced record revenue for the 2025/26 campaign of £677.6 million, up from £666.5 million during the 2024/25 campaign, although the club operated at an overall loss of £43 million.AdvertisementUnited have run at a loss for the past seven seasons, a pattern initially triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, although The Athletic reports that the club's underlying numbers are slowly starting to improve.Despite this, United's loyal fans feel not enough is being done to right the wrongs of the last 20 years, and have taken action online, calling for a mass-boycott.Who are United fans calling for boycotts? The answer to this question is simple: everyone remotely related to Manchester United and the ownership. As seen in the graphic below produced by those spearheading the campaign, the boycott is separated into four distinct categories:AdvertisementOfficial club sponsorsOfficial club merchandise and productsCompanies owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOSCompanies owned by the Glazer familyWhen delving into who these companies are, the range and breadth is vast. United's official shirt sponsor, Qualcomm's Snapdragon, pay around £60 million a season.Other big-name and household brands, such as Adidas, DHL, Coca-Cola, and SumUp, are also being targeted as part of the boycott, along with the club's media brand MUTV and the official club store. As for INEOS owned companies, this includes INEOS Hyginics, the INEOS GRenadier car, and other related brands. The Glazer family own or hold shares in UAE-based professional cricket franchise Desert Vipers, Extreme Networks, Glazer Properties, and famously the professional American football team, Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So far, the protest has gained support of millions online, with a call to action to send mass-emails to the above companies detailing the need for them to pull their sponsorships.AdvertisementThis would, in turn, hit United financially, which would in theory lead the current set of owners to sell their shares in the club.A secondary goal relates to 'waking up' those at the top to the lack of investment and ambition at United. In 2021, Arsenal fans led a large protest against owners the Kroenke's, and although they did not sell the club, they responded by upping their investment, eventually leading to the Premier League title during the 2025/26 campaign. Why are United fans protesting?United's owners, controversial British billionaire Ratcliffe and the American Glazer family, have been unpopular for a long time, with the latter never having been accepted by United's hardcore fans since their takeover in 2005.AdvertisementDespite initial success under the Glazer family, including multiple Premier League titles and a Champions League title with Sir Alex Ferguson at the helm, United's fall from grace in the last decade has exposed a poorly run organisation.Ratcliffe purchased 27.7% of the club in 2025 and gained full control of the club's football operations, but continued failures on the pitch and a lack of ambitious spending in the transfer market have angered fans.
