No matter what happens between now and January, Manchester United are likely to attempt to be active in the transfer market when it reopens for business.

Ruben Amorim's men spent over £210million in the summer to bring in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens. Despite their business, there are more questions than answers.

A new midfielder and centre-back continue to be on their radar after the positions were left in the previous window. With no European football to contend with, United are hoping to continue their rebuild.

With that in mind, MEN Sport takes a look at the latest transfer news from Old Trafford...No

Amorim plotting Sporting reunion

On the subject of defensive reinforcements, United are hoping to launch a move for Sporting CP centre-back Zeno Debast. GiveMeSport have claimed that the Reds are monitoring the 21-year-old and could make their move.

It's claimed United have sent scouts to watch Debast after previously working with Amorim. The defender has a £70m release clause in his contract in Lisbon.

MEN Sport says: "Debast falls into the category of players who have showcased their quality in Europe but have question marks over his ability at the top level. However, at 21, he's had potential for a number of years dating back to his Anderlecht days.

"United are well-stocked in defence meaning a move for an inexperienced individual would give him the time to develop at Old Trafford. However, they can't justify that price tag so they'd have to look at a way of structuring the right financial package."

Baleba bid planned

In January, United are planning to launch an official bid for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba to fend off interest from rivals.

According to journalist Shaun Connolly, the player has urged the Seagulls to accept a suitable offer with him eager to join United. It's said whether United have European football or not, the Cameroon international is keen on moving to Old Trafford.

MEN Sport says: "Baleba is a player who United are expected to be linked with throughout the next few months ahead of January. The prospect of a move to Old Trafford is tempting for anyone and this is a move they will want to complete.

"Like defence, midfield is a priority for Amorim, a holding one to be precise. Baleba may cost a fair bit but he could be the perfect fit. However, the £115m+ price tag being touted means a January deal feels unlikely."
