In a major development aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s women’s cricket setup, former fast bowler Wahab Riaz has been appointed as the consultant for the Pakistan women’s national team, according to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) insiders.

The overhaul of the women’s cricket team and its management was already promised, given the team’s below-par performance at this year’s Women’s ODI World Cup, and Wahab Riaz appears to be the first change in its setup.

Under his new role, Wahab Riaz will oversee and manage the overall affairs of the women’s team, providing strategic guidance, performance insights, and long-term planning to help elevate the side’s competitiveness on the international stage.

The move marks another step by the PCB to bring experienced cricketing minds into the women’s setup—a direction that aligns with the board’s broader vision of professionalizing women’s cricket for the future.

Wahab Riaz, who represented Pakistan in 27 Tests, 91 ODIs, and 36 T20Is, brings with him years of international experience and leadership. Known for his passion, discipline, and fighting spirit, his presence is expected to inject renewed energy into the team’s environment.

Being the women’s cricket team’s consultant isn’t even Wahab Riaz’s first assignment within the PCB. He has already served as Chief Selector of the Pakistan national cricket team, as a Senior Team Manager, and as Director of major domestic tournaments.

He was allegedly serving the board already in an unannounced role prior to this appointment.

With his trademark intensity and leadership acumen, Wahab Riaz now takes on a new challenge—not with the ball in hand, but with a vision to help shape the future of Pakistan’s women’s game.
