Danny Mills has backed Ben Godfrey to thrive at Rangers.

The former England international believes Derek McInnes and the club have made a shrewd move in bringing in the Atalanta centre-half on a season-long loan.

Godfrey, 28, was a £25 million signing for Everton in 2020, and Rangers will hope he can recapture the form that earned him the move from Norwich City.

Mills insists the two-time capped England defender will fit in well at Rangers and benefit from being part of a squad expected to win every week.

Speaking to Snabbare, ex-Manchester City star Mills said: "Rangers are going to have to make some new signings and change things around.

"Ben Godfrey's career stalled a little bit after he left Everton, and it didn't quite work out the way he wanted.

"Now it's an opportunity for him to play week in, week out.

"He’ll be playing winning football.

"He's a good signing for Rangers, and he'll do very well in that league, that is for sure."

Godfrey joined on an initial loan, but Rangers have the option to make the move permanent for around £3.8 million.
