Latest transfer news from Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and more - as Premier League clubs break summer window record with £3.2billion spend

After a major summer of spending, the Premier League's summer transfer window drew to a close at 11pm on Tuesday evening. It was a record-shattering couple of months across the UK, with a total exceeding £3.2billion exceeded through deals.

Manchester City and Chelsea agreed a £125m deal for Enzo Fernandez, with the wantaway midfielder finally leaving Stamford Bridge after months of speculation regarding his future. The Cityzens also welcomed Iliman Ndiaye to their ranks in a £65m move, further bolstering Enzo Maresca's choice.

Sunderland's approach of Malick Fofana also dominated the headlines on Tuesday, with what should have been a straightforward move turning into quite the saga when Crystal Palace threatened to hijack the Black Cats' move.

With Kyril Louis-Dreyfus flying to Lyon to persuade the 21-year-old winger to join his project at the Stadium of Light, Fofana gave Sunderland the green-light to put the wheels in motion on a move, forced to submit a dealsheet to ensure a transfer due to the last-minute nature of his decision.

In West London, AS Monaco also knocked back Chelsea's £47m move for Lamine Camara in dramatic fashion. Everything had been agreed between the two clubs, when Monaco pulled the plug with just minutes to go until the deadline - with Everton's endeavours of securing Folarin Balogun having a knock-on effect.

Chelsea were reportedly left fuming with the incredibly unprofessional last-minute decision. And Balogun's deal didn't go through anyway, with Monaco's sporting director sensationally claiming it was the striker who walked away from the deal after 'feeling mistreated' during his medical.

Mykhailo Mudryk also joined Tottenham Hotspur on a season-long loan, with both clubs hopeful that the Ukrainian is able to reacclimate to the pace of the Premier League after a two-year lay-off.

Chido Obi move confirmed

The Man United academy graduate has sealed a loan switch to Willem II.

The 18‑year‑old had also attracted interest from Feyenoord, while clubs in Denmark were monitoring his situation six years after he left Copenhagen for Arsenal.

Willem II, based in Tilburg, is the same club where Alexander Isak spent half a season on loan from Borussia Dortmund in 2019 - a spell that saw him earn a £9million move to Real Sociedad.

Jadon Sancho career lifeline emerges as ex-Man Utd ace eyed for free agent offer

Ambitious Dubai side Arabian Falcons are preparing a pitch for former Man United star and free agent Jadon Sancho to join them.

The Falcons are managed by ex-Liverpool and England ace Jonjo Shelvey, and have Leicester City Premier League winner Danny Simpson as a player-coach.

When the transfer window slammed shut, Sancho was left without a club having been released by United at the end of June. Aston Villa opted not to make his loan move permanent, after signing him temporarily last season. It means Sancho is currently stuck in the wilderness of free agency, five years after signing for United from Borussia Dortmund for £72.9m.

Fast forward to the present day, the Falcons are preparing to reach out to Sancho and other big name free agents without a club.

Mirror Football understands the Emirati football club are plotting an ambitious pitch to sway the likes of Sancho towards the club. They have already convinced one former United prodigy Ravel Morrison, who signed last summer and was recently made the captain of the side, to move to the Middle East.

Man Utd had 'very big' offer rejected in final hours of summer transfer window

Leicester City manager Russell Martin has confirmed that the club turned down 'a lot of money' from Man United for young midfielder Louis Page.

The 18-year-old was linked with a deadline day move to Old Trafford. It had previously been confirmed by Martin that the Foxes had turned down a bid from United for Page. With the deadline approaching on Tuesday, the Red Devils made a second attempt to sign the England youth international.

"The owner was here today [and] we sat in the office and received a very big offer from Manchester United," he said, via LeicestershireLive. "Myself, Jon [Rudkin] (chief football officer), James [McCarron] (sporting director) and the owner, Khun Top, sat in [the office] and he said no.

"So whatever's going on with the noise around the club and all that stuff, he was strong, and he wanted the player to stay and be part of us. It's a brilliant thing for us. Louis, you can see the level of quality and potential he possesses is amazing.

"He's really helped us since coming into the team. Him and Sammy [Braybrooke] have an unbelievable connection and we have to build around these young guys. I'm really grateful that he's still here."

Atletico Madrid slammed for Julian Alvarez treatment after failed Arsenal move

Barcelona star Dani Olmo says he ‘doesn’t understand’ Atletico Madrid's treatment of Julian Alvarez after denying him a ‘dream’ move.

The Argentine forward was of interest to Arsenal and Barcelona heading into the final days of the window.

Speaking to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish playmaker said: “Julian is a great player, a great ‘9’, one of the best in the world without a doubt, but that’s football.

"Understand it? I don’t. In the end, we all have our dreams. I think Julián was also clear about that,” the Barcelona star added.

"He fought for his dreams, but ultimately there are also other external situations that one can’t control. In that sense, that was one of them, it goes without saying.

"But life goes on. This doesn’t stop."

While neither Barcelona nor Arsenal managed to sign Alvarez, the pair actually ended up doing business together, with the Catalans instead sealing a move for Gabriel Jesus.

Georginio Wijnaldum's Chelsea 'truth'

Chelsea sources have played down reports suggesting the club are considering a move for the former Liverpool midfielder.

Foot Mercato claimed the Blues were plotting a shock swoop for Wijnaldum after their move for Lamine Camara collapsed, even reporting that Chelsea had made contact with the 35‑year‑old ahead of a surprise Premier League return.

Wijnaldum remains available on a free transfer after leaving Saudi Arabian side Al‑Ettifaq earlier this summer.

Richarlison 'agrees' move

Fabrizio Romano reports that Richarlison has agreed to join Trabzonspor after a move to Everton collapsed.

Spurs have rejected two bids - £15m and £20m but the Turkish side are expected to return with a new proposal soon.

It’s also noted that the Brazilian has agreed a salary three times higher than what he currently earns in north London.

Manchester United intend to return and test the waters at Newcastle United next summer, according to TEAMtalk.

The Red Devils failed to land the left‑back this year, with the Magpies adamant he was not for sale. Newcastle are now expected to offer him a new deal.

Sporting director 'departure'

Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes is leaving the club to join Al‑Hilal, where he will take up the same role.

It's said he had already begun overseeing the Saudi side’s summer transfer window and was effectively juggling both jobs during the final weeks of August.

Liverpool, who have gone through several sporting directors in recent years, may again look internally for a replacement. Julian Ward, currently technical director at parent company Fenway Sports Group, is one possible option but there has been no indication that a successor is lined up yet.

Shumaira Mheuka joins Celtic

Celtic have signed Shumaira Mheuka on loan from Chelsea.

The 18-year-old recently signed a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

Mheuka said: “It's amazing. Walking in, I could feel the echo and the surround sound of the stadium. You almost feel the history as you walk in.

“It's a real feeling. I wish everyone could feel it, an amazing feeling and I'm so, so happy to be here.

“This is something that I've been doing since I was a little kid. And to be able to do it in front of the Celts, the fans and show my ability in front of them, it's something that I can't wait to do. It's almost a feeling of excitement rather than nerves.

“I can't wait to score at Celtic Park. You know, I'll be chasing that feeling every game, every chance that I get.

“I’m over the moon, buzzing to be here. I'm eager, if you can't tell, so yeah, I'm ready. Let's go.”

Enzo Fernandez shirt number confirmed

The biggest transfer on deadline day was Enzo Fernandez moving to Manchester City from Chelsea for £125million.

City said in a statement on Tuesday night Fernandez had signed a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium.

And the Sky Blues have now confirmed that the Argentine midfielder will wear the No.17 shirt.

Chido Obi to join Willem II

Manchester United youngster Chido Obi is set to join Willem II on loan until the end of the season.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who is reporting that the 18-year-old is to undergo a medical today and the deal has no option to buy is included.

The Manchester Evening News reported last month that the 18-year-old is expected to leave Old Trafford on loan before the window closes.

The young striker has previously attracted interest from German club FC Koln.

Balogun bombshell

Monaco sporting director Thiago Scuro has outlined how Folarin Balogun's transfer to Everton fell apart.

"Balo was in Liverpool going through his medical, around 7pm, we had a call from Everton raising questions on the medicals of Balo which for our medical staff, the personnel staff of the player, made totally no sense. "The explanations were not enough to justify or bring concerns for the future of the player, this discussion started for medical departments, it took Everton two to three hours to check through the assessment, this is a normal situation."

He then added:

"Around 10pm, Everton realised there is no problem. As soon as we got the information, we came back to Chelsea that we have our deal there and there's no deal for Lamine. It's fair to do this, it's part of the game.

"Premier League has a mechanism where you have one extra hour to finish the paperwork, this was done five minutes before the close of the transfer window for us to finsh paperwork between Balogun and Everton. I signed the contract, Everton signed the contract, at the last moment the player decided not to sign."

Arsenal latest

Reports suggest that 17-year-old Andria Bartishvili on his way to London to complete his move to Arsenal. The Gunners are said to have won the race amid some stiff competition.

Meanwhile, in the opposite direction, Gabriel Martinelli will undergo his medical after arriving in Saudi Arabia. He was in attendance for Al Hilal's match on Tuesday.

Richarlison offer

Trabzonspor have submitted an offer for Tottenham ace Richarlison, per Transfermarkt. The Brazilian failed to agree a return to Everton during the transfer window, but Turkish sides still have the opportunity to buy players.

The Turkish club have already signed Mo Salah this summer and are exploring a deal for the forward, who has been interested in a Tottenham exit.

Man Utd transfer failure

Joshua Zirkzee stayed at Manchester United this summer, despite being linked to an exit for the duration of the window. That may have cost them the chance to sign Ollie Watkins.

The Athletic reports that the failure to land a fee for the Zirkzee is why Unitedwere unable to make any move for Watkins, who left Aston Villa this summer.

Celtic loan

Celtic have signed goalkeeper Sam Johnstone from Wolves on a season-long loan.

The 33-year-old makes the move to the Scottish Premiership champions, who will pay a large chunk of the 33-year-old's wages.

Free transfer

Reiss Nelson has arrived in the Netherlands ahead of completing a move to Feyenoord. Arsenal terminated the winger's contract before the end of the window and he has since been spotted at Rotterdam Airport, per reports.

Monaco press conference

AS Monaco sporting director Thiago Scuro will hold press conference shortly to explain the collapse of Folarin Balogun & Lamine Camara deals. Camara is back in Monaco training this morning after he was informed during Chelsea medical last night that his £47m move was being pulled.

There could be some explaining to do.

Shock move

Everton have been spoken to over the potential of signing former Manchester United star Anthony Martial, per TEAMtalk. The forward is currently a free agent.

The Toffees missed out on Folarin Balogun in the final hours of the transfer window last night.

Brighton confirm deal

Brighton have confirmed the signing of Femi Azeez from Millwall. The winger has signed a four-year deal at the Amex and the Seagulls have paid £15m.

Ipswich announce signing

Zian Flemming's move from Burnley to Ipswich Town has been announced. The forward is the Tractor Boys 12th signing and joins on a four-year deal.

Flemming played in the Premier League last term as the Clarets were relegated and has scoreed three goals in four games this season ahead of his move.

“I am really proud to sign for Ipswich Town," Flemming said.

“I played in the Premier League last season and really enjoyed my first season at the top level, competing against the best players and teams in the world, so I am delighted to now be back in there with a great club like Ipswich.

“I will give my all every time I step onto the pitch and can’t wait to meet the supporters. The first game is on Friday against Liverpool, which is very soon, and I am excited to get started.”

Another deadline

Sunderland and Ajax expect to get a deal over the line to send Simon Adingra to the Netherlands before tonight's deadline but the winger is set to undergo further medical checks today, per Sky Sports.

The clubs have agreed a season-long loan deal for the 24-year-old. Ajax want the player to undergo further testing following his medical on Tuesday.

Despite a lavish summer of spending, there are still plenty of problems for Premier League clubs to face after the transfer window shut last night.

Disappointing window

Jamie Carragher has admitted he has been left disappointed by Liverpool's transfer business this summer. He believes they failed to find a true option on the right flank to replace Mo Salah.

"I think it's been OK. The main thing was to improve in the wide areas and they brought two wingers in. "The real star is Barcola, and you talk about replacing Mo Salah, but it's on the opposite flank. Liverpool haven't got a real out-and-out right-sided attacker. We haven't got anybody with a left foot on that right side. Like, Mo Salah. "I'm disappointed. I'm not quite sure what we're going to do on that right wing right now. It doesn't look like a balanced squad. Liverpool are short in full-back areas and probably a midfield player as well."
