What time is Ben Shelton match today? US Open men's final TV schedule

American tennis fans have celebrated alongside Coco Gauff, Sloane Stephens and Serena Williams as they won the U.S. Open for their home nation. But while female champions have come at a regular pace, the same hasn't been true on the men's side.

That could change today when Ben Shelton, who rose to prominence at Florida, challenges No. 1-seeded Alexander Zverev in the final. The Gainesville native outlasted Frances Tiafoe in an all-American semifinal to become the first Black American man to qualify for the final in Flushing Meadows since Arthur Ashe, the legend whose name graces the stadium Shelton will play in today, did so in 1972.

Shelton seeks to become the first American male champion since Andy Roddick in 2003. It's the first grand slam final appearance for the 23-year-old after two trips to the semifinals, including the 2023 U.S. Open. The only downside is it's unlikely his girlfriend, Trinity Rodman, will be able to attend: Her Washington Spirit have an NWSL match in D.C. at the same time.

It won't be easy taking down Zverev, who is playing in his third straight major final. But Shelton has already toppled one of the greats in tennis, winning a marathon quarterfinal match against reigning U.S. Open champ Carlos Alcaraz that ended after 3:30 a.m.

Here's what to know about Shelton's next match, including how to watch on TV and streaming.

Who is Ben Shelton playing in US Open final?

Ben Shelton's opponent in the U.S. Open final is Alexander Zverev, the No. 2 player in the ATP rankings and the top seed in the men's draw at Flushing Meadows. The 29-year-old from Germany won his first career major title at the French Open in May, then fell in the Wimbledon final to Jannik Sinner. Zverev was taken to five sets in his first- and second-round matches at the U.S. Open, but he hasn't dropped a set since, sweeping a pair of unseeded players in Botic van de Zandschulp in the quarterfinal and Karen Khachanov in the semis.

Zverev has reached the U.S. Open final once before, losing to Dominic Thiem in 2020. He is 5-0 in his career against Shelton, most recently at the ATP Finals in Italy in November. Shelton has won only one set against Zverev, the opener of their first meeting at the 2024 Cincinnati Open.
