A major chunk of the Indian men’s cricket team’s support staff has reportedly been shown the exit door after a massive debacle Down Under earlier this year, which saw India lose the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a decade and a missed chance to qualify for the World Test Championship final.

According to a report in Dainik Jagran, BCCI has sprung into action and has sacked assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, despite him being just eight months into his tenure with the Indian cricket team.

BCCI is yet to confirm the news, but an announcement might be impending with India slated to travel to England for five Tests in June.

The report added that BCCI has sent a notice saying that any support staff who has been with the side for over three years might be removed from service.

Fielding coach T Dilip, who had gained popularity for his innovative ideas of awarding the fielding medal and trainer Soham Desai, who has been with the side for three years, have been removed from service, according to the report.

Former Saurashtra batter Sitanshu Kotak is already associated with the side, while Ryan ten Doeschate will continue in his role.

Desai’s role will be taken over by Adrian le Roux, who is a sports scientist and is currently associated with the Punjab Kings and has worked with the Kolkata Knight Riders earlier. He also worked with the Indian team in the early 2000s and will join the side after IPL 2025. His deal with BCCI is reportedly done.

The Indian team, which had won in Australia in their last two tours Down Under in 2018-19 and 2020-21, had begun their campaign on a high with a big win in Perth, as a hat-trick of series wins loomed large.

But Australia came back stronger to thrash India by 10 wickets in the pink-ball Test in Adelaide and a draw followed in Brisbane.

Australia yet again thrashed India by a whopping 184 runs in the fourth Test in Melbourne, but with a chance still at hand to retain the trophy, India lost the final Test by six wickets in Sydney as the ghosts of away Test tours returned to haunt them.
