A spell of November rain in Brisbane on Saturday sealed the Indian cricket team’s 2-1 triumph in the five-match India vs Australia T20 2025 series Down Under. After the first T20I at Canberra was washed out, Australia took the lead in the series with a four-wicket win in Melbourne. However, India, captained by Suryakumar Yadav, responded brilliantly by winning the next two matches - a five-wicket victory in Hobart followed by a 48-run domination in Carrara.Trailing 2-1 heading into the final game at the Gabba, the Australian cricket team, currently second in the world T20I rankings, needed to win to level the series at home. After Indian T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav lost the toss and Australia skipper Mitchell Marsh opted to field first, the visitors got off to a flying start with openers Abhishek Sharma (23 not out off 13 balls) and Shubman Gill (29 not out off 16 balls) taking the attack to the Australian pacers early on.However, rain cut the batting storm short with reigning T20 World Cup champions and world No. 1 India at 52 for no loss after 4.5 overs. The covers never came off as the match was called off without any further play.In the meantime, Abhishek Sharma also became the second-fastest Indian batter to reach 1000 T20I runs. The youngster took 28 innings to reach the milestone - one more than Virat Kohli.Abhishek Sharma was also adjudged the Player of the Series after top-scoring with 163 runs. The result also means India have now won four T20I series on the bounce against the Australians. They won 2-1 and 4-1 at home in 2020-21 and 2023-24, respectively, while triumphing 2-1 in Australia back in 2022.Australia recorded their last T20I series win (2-0) over the Men in Blue in 2018-19 at home.India had lost the preceding three-match ODI series 2-1.The Indian cricket team will travel back home next to welcome a touring South African side for two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is.
