Cobbo’s career revival complete with monster new contract

Dolphins star Selwyn Cobbo has re-signed after a stellar career revival, keeping him at the club until the end of 2031.

Cobbo was discarded by Brisbane at the end of last year, but has returned to form with the Dolphins and re-established himself as one of the game’s elite wingers.

The 24-year-old was already signed at Redcliffe for next season, but has opted to sign a four-year extension before the November free agency period.

It’s a clear show of faith from both parties after Cobbo arrived looking for a lifeline and has since scored 18 tries in 19 games for the club.

“Selwyn has made an immediate impact since joining the Dolphins and what he has been able to produce in his first season at the club has been remarkable,” Dolphins chief executive Terry Reader said on Friday evening.

“It is clear the environment has really suited him and he is enjoying his football – and Selwyn’s performances are underlining that.

“At just 24 years of age we know there is still plenty of great football ahead of him, and we’re excited that will be in a Dolphins jersey.

“He has quickly become an important part of our team and to have a player of Selwyn’s calibre committed to the club is a great result.”

The news of Cobbo’s extension comes just hours after the Dolphins also locked in star back-rower Kulikefu Finefeuiaki for a further two seasons.

Finefeuiaki has enjoyed a breakout year with the Dolphins and made his State of Origin debut for Queensland during the 2026 series.

“What I think has been most impressive about Kuli’s rise in our squad has been his transformation as a player,” Reader said in a club statement.

“His work to turn himself into an 80-minute player on the edge who now plays State of Origin has been extremely impressive.

“We see Kuli as one of the cornerstones of our pack and are excited about what he can do for this club not only in this Finals Series, but over the next few years.”

The new deals for Cobbo and Finefeuiaki is a massive boost for the Dolphins in the midst of their first finals campaign, with a spot in the prelims already secured.

However, the likes of Herbie Farnworth and Jack Bostock are still unsigned beyond 2027, with both centres expected to attract interest on the NRL open market.

The in-form Dolphins will face the winner of Saturday night’s clash between the Sydney Roosters and Cronulla Sharks for a spot in the grand final.
