England pacer Gus Atkinson shared his excitement ahead of the three-match Test series against Pakistan. He admitted that it was tough to get accustomed to the sweltering heat and the hot conditions in Pakistan. This will be Atkinson's first assignment outside the home conditions and the pacer is looking forward to make the most of it and learn. Pakistan will host England for three Tests, starting October 7, Monday in Multan. Atkinson made his debut this English summer and already has 34 wickets in six Test matches with best figures of 7/45 on his debut against West Indies.

"It's obviously a lot hotter than England. The weather's quite bad there now, but yeah, it was very hot here. We had a good training session yesterday and got used to the weather. Today, it feels a lot easier training. I'm just trying not to do anything different. I know the conditions are different, so I'll speak to people who have played here before and try to learn from them. But I'm going to play my own game and do what works for me," Atkinson said in a video posted by Pakistan Cricket on X.

Atkinson led the transition well from the post-Anderson-Broad era for England's pace bowling department. In his very first home summer, he finished as the top wicket-taker for the team.

"We've lost a few senior players over the years and are missing some players due to injury. But we have a really good bowling attack here. We've got a lot of young bowlers who are ready to go, and Chris Woakes has been around for a long time, so he's very experienced. As I said, we've got a lot of young bowlers ready to go," Atkinson added.

"Pakistan have a lot of great players"

The bowler acknowledged that Pakistan boasted great players like Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam in their ranks. Babar will aim to regain his form as he managed just 64 runs in the 4 innings against Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Rizwan impressed with an unbeaten 171 in the 1st Test against Bangladesh and will look to continue his form against England.

"Pakistan have a lot of great players - Babar, Rizwan, and others - so it will be a really good test for us. I haven't decided or thought about who I'm going to target or anything. I'll just try to do as well as I can, take as many wickets, and score as many runs as I can."

Atkinson, who had been to Pakistan before, was happy to have home support by his team's side despite the new conditions.

"It's great to see some Barmy Army fans out here. It's always great to see fans in general. It's really exciting to be playing cricket in Pakistan. I've only been here once before for the PSL for two weeks or so, but I'm really happy to be here," he added.
