Casper Ruud and Richard Gasquet in agreement about Jannik Sinner after he accepts three-month ban

Jannik Sinner has certainly caught the attention of the tennis world, but this time not for his success on the court.

ATP number one and recent Australian Open champion Sinner has accepted a three-month after testing positive for banned substance clostebol last year.

Andrea Petkovic has questioned Sinner’s ban, with the Italian having reached an agreement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Sinner’s ban has left Nick Kyrgios baffled, with the former missing out on any tournaments from February 9 to May 4.

The three-time Grand Slam champion can return for his home event of the ATP Masters 1000 Rome in early May, with the French Open starting later that month.

Casper Ruud and Richard Gasquet praise Jannik Sinner amid drugs ban

The fallout from the decision is certain to last for some time, with Sinner’s fellow ATP stars Casper Ruud and Richard Gasquet among the latest to share their verdicts.

As quoted by Le Parisien, Ruud said: “I know Jannik very well. I’m with him. I think he’s a good guy. Of course, after this, he will still be the best player in the world.”

Jannik Sinner set for mixed reactions from players and fans after three-month ban

Whatever the thoughts on Sinner’s failed drugs test and subsequent ban, the likelihood is that he will come back with a bang.

He can fittingly make a return to competitive tennis in Rome, having been told he can return to official training activity from April 13.

That situation should give him more than enough time to fully prepare for the French Open, a Grand Slam he has yet to win.

It remains to be seen, however, how many other players and indeed fans will treat him upon his return to the court.

Sinner won both the Australian Open and US Open last year titles, and successfully defended the former in Melbourne last month.

His confidence will undoubtedly be shaken by the three-month ban, although he may be motivated to return even stronger than he was previously.
