ICC locks in 12 venues for 2027 ODI World Cup across three Southern African nations

ICC has officially locked in the host cities for the 2027 men's ODI World Cup. The next edition of the global competition will mark the first time in nearly a quarter-century that the tournament will return to Southern African soil.

South Africa will carry the heaviest load of fixtures, with eight cities set to stage the majority of the 54 scheduled matches. The showpiece final will be played at either the Wanderers or Newlands.

Zimbabwe will share a portion of the action too, with Harare, Bulawayo, and Victoria Falls collectively expected to host between seven and ten games. Namibia rounds out the trio of host nations, with Windhoek guaranteed at least three matches on the schedule.

Among all these venues, Victoria Falls stands out as a new addition, since the rest of the host cities were locked in years ago. The town's brand-new stadium, built to hold 10,000 spectators, is on track for completion later this year and will first see domestic action during the upcoming home season before its international debut, likely arriving in the opening quarter of 2027.

Warm-up venues and the road to the tournament

Two further South African cities, Benoni and Potchefstroom, have been earmarked purely as warm-up locations and are also expected to jointly stage the World Cup Qualifier alongside Namibia early next year.

That qualifying event has been scheduled deliberately around South Africa's domestic calendar, since the country's six primary international venues, the Wanderers, SuperSport Park, Newlands, Kingsmead, St George's Park, and Boland Park, will all be tied up hosting the SA20 league at that time.

This edition brings the ODI World Cup back to the continent after a 24-year gap, with South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Kenya having jointly staged the 2003 tournament. South Africa have hosted several ICC tournaments, including the first-ever men's T20 World Cup in 2007, the women's T20 World Cup in 2023, and both men's and women's Under-19 World Cups until now.

For Namibia, though, this will be uncharted territory, as it will be the first time they would host a senior ICC event, having only previously co-hosted the men's Under-19 World Cup with Zimbabwe earlier this year.
