Man Utd could replace Erik ten Hag signing who has played just TWO games

Manchester United appear to be interesting in signing another goalkeeper to provide competition for Andre Onana and to push the former Ajax star as the club's second choice option

Manchester United are eyeing a new goalkeeper to add to their ranks and it could spell bad news for Altay Bayindir.

The Red Devils are said to be watching Sunderland shot-stopper Nathan Patterson as they search for a young understudy for Andre Onana. The Black Cats have kept four clean sheets in their opening seven matches of the season with Patterson between the sticks.

Patterson became the club's No.1 in 2021/22 and played every match as they won promotion from League One. The academy graduate's current contract expires in 2028 after he signed a new deal 12 months ago.

Crystal Palace and Liverpool have also been linked with making a move. A £20million fee has been touted for the Championship star.

According to The Sun, Erik ten Hag wants greater competition for Onana at Old Trafford. It would be difficult to prise the goalkeeper away from the Stadium of Light amid a promotion push, however.

It is news that spells bad news for Altay Bayindir, who has taken up the spot behind the former Ajax player after signing from Fenerbahce in September 2023. The Turkey international has started just twice for United with eight months between his appearances as he last featured against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.

Bayindir has been left frustrated to not have played more in his time at Old Trafford. The 26-year-old believes he needs to prove himself on the pitch.

Speaking ahead of the game against Barnsley, Bayindir told United Review: "I need to be ready always and I’m just waiting. I’m just working hard and, if you are a football player, you don’t know when a chance can come to you. And you need to be ready.

"I’m working hard at the training ground and it’s just that I want to play. I need more of a chance to take. Of course, it’s important for a player and I can say, in football, you have to do different things in training and in a game. They are two different things. You can work hard and do everything on the training ground but you need to show yourself in the game.

"It’s more important because, if you will show yourself in the game, everyone can see it because, of course, you need to work hard and you need to show yourself on the training ground. But it’s two different things. Do you know what I mean? You need to show yourself in the game and on the pitch.

"I didn’t get a long time of chances last year, I was just playing one game. And it is not enough for my personality but, in life, anything can happen. You just need to be focused. You need to work hard and everything can change in this life."
