Theo Walcott delivers honest verdict on whether Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah should win the Ballon d’Or

Discussion surrounding this year’s Ballon d’Or winner has been limited given how far away the 2025 ceremony is, yet Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is already the front-runner for the award.

The Egyptian international has been nothing short of exceptional this season, with Salah already on 30 goals in all competitions with the former AS Roma superstar on course to enjoy his best year ever for Liverpool since joining in 2027.

With Salah also bagging 22 assists in all competitions, it’s easy to see why plenty of supporters and pundits are already backing the 32-year-old to claim this year’s Ballon d’Or award, especially with Liverpool on course to win the Premier League title.

And Theo Walcott has now given his verdict on whether or not Salah should be considered the favourite for Ballon d’Or given how key the winger has been in firing Liverpool so far ahead of Arsenal in the league.

Mohamed Salah ‘should win the Ballon d’Or’ after historic season

Speaking to DR Sports, the former Arsenal and England international stated that Salah ‘should’ clinch this year’s Ballon d’Or award, with Walcott also backing Liverpool to go all the way in the Premier League title race.

With Luis Garcia also backing Salah to win the Ballon d’Or, hype is beginning to build already on the Liverpool winger clinching the biggest individual award in football, and Walcott is now on-board in handing the 32-year-old the accolade later this year.

Walcott said when asked about Arsenal’s chances of catching up with Liverpool and Salah’s form: “The big issue is that Liverpool just don’t look like they’re going to slip up, they just outscore teams, and I think that’s their biggest asset.

“It doesn’t matter if you score, they’ll always score a lot of goals, especially when they’ve got that man Mo Salah, who’s been the player of the season, he should win the Ballon d’Or.”

And support surrounding the 32-year-old’s Ballon d’Or claim is seemingly growing with every week, with Rio Ferdinand backing Salah to win the award with the pundit also predicting Liverpool to win the Premier League this season.

With Arne Slot also hinting that Salah could win the Ballon d’Or, all signs seem to point towards the Liverpool superstar becoming the first Anfield recipient of the award since Michael Owen, an achievement that every supporter would love to see later this year.
