There was a time when he was the talk of the town for his strokeplay. Experts linked his style of strokeplay as a mix of Virender Sehwag and Brian Lara – an exceptional combination to have as your technical style in executing strokes. There has never been any doubt of Prithvi Shaw's talent – he has oodles of it – but what has left people disappointed is the fact that he hasn't translated that into substance.Shaw was the captain of the India U-19 team that won the World Cup in 2018, and while his mates from that side, Shubman Gill and Arshdeep Singh, have made rapid strides in their respective careers, Shaw remains on square one. He continued to be relevant in the IPL but being unsold at the 2025 auction came as a rude awakening for the youngster. If reports are to be believed, his struggles seem more internal than external, with his teammates and coaches often alleging that he is indisciplined in his preparations and work ethic. According to the latest update from Shaw, he is set to represent a new team from the next domestic season. It is worth noting that the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) had publicly stated that Shaw wouldn't be selected until he improves his physical shape.Shaw has never been known to be lean and has attracted criticism for being an outlier in the fitness-oriented era of cricket. A Mumbai boy through and through, he has decided to part ways with his native team and has also sought a no-objection certificate from MCA. Shaw has reportedly received offers from multiple teams, but he is yet to make a final call on the matter. An official from the MCA confirmed the development."He has sought NoC from us and we will take a decision on it soon,” said the official in a chat with The Indian Express.Shaw has represented India in five Tests, six ODIs and a T20I with moderate returns. However, he has been a stellar performer in domestic cricket across all three formats. The stylish batter has 3,399 List A runs at a stunning strike rate of 125.7 while also tallying 2,902 T20 runs at a strike rate of 151.5. In the longest format, Shaw averages 46 and has scores runs at his typically manic pace with eye-catching strokes. It remains to be seen where his new destination would be in the next domestic season.
