What Txiki Begiristain did to congratulate Nuno Espirito Santo after Nottingham Forest beat Manchester City

Nottingham Forest defeated Manchester City at the weekend to send more shockwaves across the Premier League in a season that is going swimmingly for Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Forest head coach really does have the Midas touch right now. His in-game tweaks to his team outfoxed Pep Guardiola at the weekend, and the reigning champions have four fewer points than Forest, with 10 games remaining.

Espirito Santo is close to a Jurgen Klopp record after this win over Guardiola. He has a knack for beating the big sides this season, particularly when playing at City Ground.

Ola Aina was praised by Robbie Earle after this performance. The defender was also responsible for putting footage of Espirito Santo dancing in the dressing room with his players after this famous victory.

What Txiki Begiristain did to congratulate Nottingham Forest after win over Manchester City

There might have been some sour grapes from some City fans on social media but there was no such turn of events at the City Ground from the powers that be at Manchester City.

According to the Daily Mail, Begiristain went out of his way in the players’ and officials’ car park to go over, shake the hand of Espirito Santo and congratulate him on a brilliant victory in the Premier League.

It’s claimed that City are normally good losers behind the scenes. Saturday was no different on Trentside with the City director of football taking some time out before his departure to chat with Espirito Santo.

City know this defeat has the potential to be very detrimental in their quest to reach the Champions League. However, with five teams likely to qualify through the Premier League and their run-in favourable, it’s hard to bet against them.

The warm embrace is nice to hear. It showcases that although they have some charges hanging over their heads, perhaps City do things properly when it comes to common courtesy at Premier League level.

Forest next five fixtures

This is now a real chance for Forest to do something special in the Premier League this season – and the next five fixtures provide chances to get some points on the board.

This season wouldn’t have been defined by European football, but having been in the top four for so long, it would now be a real shame not to get Champions League football secured next season.

By beating Liverpool and Manchester City this season, the Reds have showcased they mix it with the bigger clubs and the challenge for Forest now is to try and match those clubs on an annual basis.

Recruitment will be key once more this summer. The likes of Nikola Milenkovic and Elliot Anderson have made a huge difference this season and more signings of that nature would be most welcomed in the next window.
