Generals post six individual wins over Captains to close CNU Invite

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Mock dual play continued on Sunday at the Christopher Newport Invite, with the Generals' women's tennis team winning six of the nine matches played against the host Captains.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Generals shook a 1-2 start from doubles play to win 5-of-6 singles matches. All wins came in straight sets, with first-years Susanna Whitehead (6-2, 6-0) and Manavi Bedi (6-0, 6-0) posting the biggest wins.

Sophomores Sarah Ladd and Margarette Berdy also picked up singles wins on Sunday. Ladd finished up a 6-2, 7-6 (4) win while Berdy won by default over Anna Bong after leading by a score of 6-2, 2-1.

Ladd and Whitehead teamed up for the Generals' win in doubles play, which came in a 6-2 final against Molly Miller and Kylie Schaefer.

Junior Mary Kate Kahl improved to 2-0 in singles play for the weekend with a 6-1, 7-5 victory on Sunday against Lindsey Bergelin.

After going unfinished against Hampton while on match point in doubles on Saturday, the Generals were unable to resume against the Pirates on Sunday.
