Mason Mount believes it is only a matter of time before Ruben Amorim’s preferred system ‘clicks’ at Manchester United, despite enduring a tough start to life at Old Trafford.Ruben Amorim left his homeland in 2024 after he left Sporting CP, only to arrive at Old Trafford as Manchester United’s head coach. The 40-year-old replaced Erik ten Hag following a disastrous start to the Premier League, but thus far Amorim has been unable to turn around the Red Devils’ poor run of form. However, United have had a completely different season in Europe, after reaching the Europa League semi-finals. The Red Devils remain the only unbeaten team left in the competition, and they will face Athletic Bilbao for a place in the final. An abysmal domestic season means United are set for their worst finish in the Premier League era. They sit 14th in the league table after losing 1-0 to Wolves at Old Trafford last weekend.United are fully focused on winning the Europa League, with just five games left to play in the league.Photo by Ash Donelon/Manchester United via Getty ImagesMason Mount enjoys Ruben Amorim’s systemAlthough Mason Mount has missed a lot of football this season due to injury, the Manchester United midfielder is looking forward to being part of Ruben Amorim’s side moving forward.More United NewsThe England international is admired by Amorim for his tactical flexibility and ability to play several different roles, but injuries have kept him out of action for most of the season.Mount is confident that Amorim’s style of play will soon ‘click’ at United, after playing a similar formation during his time at Chelsea.“He’s been brilliant,” Amorim told club media as per ManUtd.com.“I’d seen the way he likes to play and the formations he’d played in Portugal. It’s something that I’ve been used to and I’ve played in the past, so I know the kind of movement he likes. It’s very similar. So I knew I could be helping the lads around me understand the formation.“It’s very difficult when you change from one formation to another. It can be quite a big difference, so, at the beginning, it takes some time to get used to and to click. But once you do find that moment that it does, I think it can be very special.“I think we’re so close to that. There’s still small details here and there. The small details are so important when you’re playing at this level and this type of formation.”This helps explain why Amorim is such a fan of Mount, despite not getting to use the midfielder as much as he’d have liked since becoming manager.Hopefully, Mount can move beyond the injuries and get a run of games together before the end of the season. A full pre-season will also help.Mount’s observations from the standsAfter playing in five of Amorim’s first six games in charge, Mount suffered an injury in United’s 2-1 win over Man City, which ruled him out until the start of April. Now, back in the team, Mount is hoping for more game time but Amorim is wary of rushing him back too soon.Mount says he could see small details improving when he watched the team from the stands.“Unfortunately, I picked up an injury that had me sidelined for some time, but I’ve obviously worked as hard as I could to get back, and I was watching it from the stands.“You can see the improvement that’s happened over the last couple of months. I think the results will come. We’ve been working really hard as a team, and I think, in some games, you can see the improvement that we’re getting there.”
