Arsenal news: Bruno Guimaraes shows true colours as medical completed for transfer

There is plenty happening behind the scenes at Arsenal in terms of transfers

More exciting transfer developments involving Arsenal are expected this week. Mikel Arteta’s side are currently preparing for the new campaign, where they will look to defend their Premier League title.

The Gunners’ first official pre-season fixture against Girona ended in a thumping 4-1 victory on Saturday, where £34million summer signing Christos Tzolis was among the scorers. They face Real Betis on Wednesday afternoon, before returning to host Borussia Dortmund and Como at the Emirates.

Aside from Tzolis, it's been a slow transfer window for the 2025/26 Champions League finalists, with sporting director Andrea Berta only otherwise managing to make Piero Hincapie’s move permanent and signing back-up goalkeeper Illan Meslier as a free agent.

But, according to The Athletic, Arsenal are now closing in on a complete agreement with Newcastle to sign Bruno Guimaraes, with there being a desire among all parties to bring the situation to a close. The deal is now on course for completion, with the 28-year-old awaiting Newcastle's permission to undergo his medical.

Berta has not been successful in selling players who are surplus to requirements yet, despite suitors being wanted for Fabio Vieira, Reiss Nelson and Gabriel Jesus. Yet, most of the Italian’s negotiation work has been conducted behind the scenes, with Arsenal hoping that bears fruit in the coming weeks, before the transfer window shuts on September 1.

Now, Mirror Football takes a look at two of the latest transfer stories involving the Gunners.

Christian Norgaard’s medical

Christian Norgaard completed a medical at Everton on Tuesday ahead of his permanent move away from Arsenal. The Danish midfielder was signed only a year ago from Brentford in a surprise deal worth an initial £10m plus £2m in add-ons.

Norgaard did not play as much as he would have liked last season, making just seven Premier League appearances - none of which were as a starter. Yet, the 32-year-old veteran was highly respected around the club for his leadership and role within the dressing room

And he will leave north London as a Premier League champion ahead of his £7m transfer to Everton. Norgaard had been in Girona with the Arsenal squad last weekend for the 4-1 victory over the Spanish side but did not participate in the match as negotiations with Everton advanced. He was then given approval by the Gunners to complete all formalities ahead of signing a multi-year deal with the Toffees.

Bruno Guimaraes shows true colours

Bruno Guimaraes shared an image of himself joining Newcastle’s pre-season training camp on Monday amid reports of his impending move to Arsenal, before getting back to work on Tuesday. The Magpies captain has been at the centre of a long summer transfer saga, with the Gunners keen to land the midfielder.

Guimaraes is understood to have agreed personal terms with Arsenal, having told Newcastle of his desire to leave, but will not force through a move if an agreement isn’t reached between the two clubs. He showed that, and with it his professionalism as captain, by joining up with the rest of the Newcastle squad.

The 28-year-old Brazilian was initially meant to return from his extended post-World Cup break on Sunday but the club were happy for him to arrive 24 hours later. He did exactly that and posted an image of him in La Manga, where they are training in Spain, showing he is still a Newcastle player.
