Liverpool transfer news amid Alexander Isak hint as Reds set for Milos Kerkez boost

There’s no shortage of speculation around Liverpool at the moment, and we’re only a few days into the January transfer window.

The headlines have been dominated recently by Real Madrid’s pursuit of Trent Alexander-Arnold, with the Spanish giant stepping up its attempts to sign the Reds vice-captain this month.

Mohamed Salah has had more to say on his own contract saga, with no love lost between him and Jamie Carragher, but it might be easy to forget that Liverpool has the chance to bring in some new faces at the moment.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today, including the latest on Alexander Isak and Milos Kerkez.

Alexander Isak (Newcastle United)

Alexander Isak has dropped a fresh hint over his future amid recent claims that Liverpool could be chasing his signature.

The Telegraph reported recently that the Reds viewed Isak as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, although Newcastle may price them out of a move after setting an asking price of $188m (£150m/€181m). Now, Isak seems to have indicated he is happy to stay at St James’ Park.

"Playing football at this level has always been a dream and probably the main dream that I've had," he told Prime Video Sverige (via the ECHO). “Playing in the Premier League for a club like Newcastle with a fan base like they have here is extra special."

Liverpool.com says: It's always going to be a long shot for Liverpool to sign Isak, especially at that price. Of course, FFP might force Newcastle to bring that price down, which might work in the Reds' favor, although a striker of that quality still won't come cheaply.

Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth)

Liverpool is among Milos Kerkez's admirers, according to The Times, with Bournemouth potentially readying itself for offers for the left-back.

The Cherries are close to completing the signing of Julio Soler from Argentine side Club Atletico Lanus, with the 19-year-old expected to undergo a medical on Tuesday.

That could point to Bournemouth expecting more interest in Kerkez, with the Reds claimed to be interested, although it's also said that Andoni Iraola's side will not sanction the departure of first-team players during this transfer window.

Liverpool.com says: Even if Bournemouth isn't willing to let Kerkez go this month, it might be an encouraging sign that they're seemingly getting ready for his departure at some point. If they are going to listen to offers at some point, then Liverpool needs to make sure it is in the mix for his signature, if not at the front of the queue.
