Tottenham hit by Eberechi Eze blow – sources

Tottenham have been hit with a blow in their pursuit of Crystal Palace winger Eberechi Eze, sources have told Football Insider.

Eze has a £68million release clause in his contract, and sources say that Palace are keen to hold out for that figure.

Spurs, who have been long-term admirers of the England international, had been hoping that they would be able to agree on a cheaper deal with the Eagles.

The 27-year-old is keen to play at the highest level, and the North London side can offer him Champions League football after their Europa League triumph last season.

Tottenham forced to spend big for Eze

Back in May, former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Tottenham are planning talks with Eze’s agent about the possibility of a summer move.

The Englishman has seen his stock rise considerably in recent year, since becoming the main man for the Eagles.

Last season, Eze scored the winner as Palace beat Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup final to claim the club’s first-ever major trophy.

However, Oliver Glasner’s side are still yet to find out whether they will be competing in the Europa League next season, due to an ownership issue surrounding John Textor and Lyon.

If the South London club are kicked out of the competition, it could hurt their chances of keeping Eze.

Sources: Tottenham’s new Cristian Romero stance revealed

Meanwhile, Tottenham are standing firm on their £60million valuation of star defender Cristian Romero, sources have told Football Insider.

The Spurs star, 27, is wanted by Spanish giants Atletico Madrid but they have been unsuccessful in their early attempts to land him following talks.

Romero is a key man for new manager Thomas Frank and the Lilywhites are reluctant to lose him ahead of Champions League participation.

However, sources say the Argentina international could push for a move away in a bid to get Tottenham to lower their asking price.
