West Coast Eagles legend Glen Jakovich will be celebrated throughout the 2026 WAFL season after being named the club’s official WAFL Eagles Ball Legend.

One of the most iconic players in the club’s history, Jakovich’s impact spanned more than a decade at the highest level, defined by his competitiveness, leadership and commitment to the blue and gold.

After beginning his senior career with South Fremantle, where he played 51 games and kicked 109 goals between 1989 and 1991, Jakovich was recruited by the Eagles and went on to play 276 AFL games for West Coast between 1991 and 2004, including starring roles in the club’s 1992 and 1994 premiership triumphs.

A two-time All-Australian, four-time Club Champion and two-time Glendinning Medal winner, Jakovich also represented Western Australia on nine occasions and Australia in the 2003 International Rules Series.

His contribution to the game has been recognised with induction into the WA Football Hall of Fame and Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2008, before becoming an inaugural member of the West Coast Eagles Hall of Fame in 2011.

“There are a handful of people who become part of the fabric of a football club, and Glen Jakovich sits comfortably among the greats of the West Coast Eagles and the broader Australian football community,” Head of WAFL Football Steve Trewella said.

“Having ‘Jako’ as our Ball Legend for 2026 is fitting, and it was a privilege for our young players to hear him reflect on his career and share his learnings around elite standards, competition and team success.”

Reflecting on the honour, Jakovich said being named WAFL Eagles Ball Legend carried special meaning.

“It’s humbling to have this accolade,” Jakovich said.

“It’s not something I ever expected, but it means a lot for my family. My parents have both passed, my Dad never saw me play a game of footy, so this one is for them.”
