Everton are trying to bring in Bayern Munich left-back Adam Aznou. Speaking to Men in Blazers’ host Roger Bennett at an event called A Night Live on Stage with David Moyes and Everton Football Club at the West 16th Street venue Racket NYC on Friday night, the Blues boss said to a packed audience that 'nine or 10' new signings were required this summer.

The 62-year-old made the bold proclamation – while also thanking owners The Friedkin Group for their support – after telling this correspondent earlier in the day he can 'sense' the need for more additions to the squad from his own existing players. As reported by The Athletic on Saturday, Everton have made progress over a deal for Aznou with a fee in the region of €9million (approximately £7.87m).

However, despite claims elsewhere that a deal has been agreed, with a green light for a medical, the ECHO understands that at this stage, the process is not as advanced as that, but the process is currently moving in that direction.

The Blues have already missed out on another full-back target this summer, Kenny Tete, who primarily operates on the opposite flank, after the Dutch international performed a U-turn and decided to sign a new contract with Fulham rather than come to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Barcelona-born Aznou started with Damm in his native Catalonia before joining nearby Barcelona’s fabled La Masia academy.

He did not make a senior appearance for Barca but moved to Bundesliga side Bayern in 2022 and has turned out for their first team on four occasions.

He returned to Spain on February 3 this year, joining Real Valladolid on loan, but despite playing 13 matches, he was unable to prevent their relegation from La Liga.

Aznou has been capped three times for Morocco and if Everton are able to secure his services, he will provide much-needed competition for Ukraine international Vitalii Mykolenko, who has been the club’s only recognised left-back for the previous two seasons.
