I would like to apologise to MS Dhoni, Kapil Dev: Yuvraj Singh on father's remarks

Yuvraj Singh, India's two-time World Cup winner, has apologised to the country's only two ODI World Cup-winning captains, Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni, for the repeated remarks made by his father, Yograj Singh, over the years. "I would like to apologise to Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni," Yuvraj said in a teaser video released by Sports Tak.

Yograj Singh has, for years, targeted Dhoni, accusing him of dropping Yuvraj from the Indian team. His comments have followed a familiar pattern, resurfacing time and again in different forms. Yuvraj, however, has largely steered clear of such controversies and refrained from reacting publicly to his father's statements. In the same teaser, he addressed the issue, saying, "I have told dad that it's not ok," indicating his discomfort with the nature of those remarks.

The episode, expected to be released soon, will be one of Yuvraj's first detailed podcast appearances in a long time. The two-minute teaser shows him speaking on a range of cricketing topics, including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Rishabh Pant and the teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

While Yograj's criticism of Dhoni has been well documented, he also drew attention last year with explosive allegations against Kapil Dev. Yograj claimed that Kapil had threatened him and accused the former India captain of sabotaging his career in the early 1980s. He also said that he once went to Kapil's house with a pistol to confront him. Kapil chose not to engage directly with the claims, responding with a brief remark at the time, but the allegations sparked widespread debate.

Yograj has also carried a long-standing grievance over his omission from the Indian team during Kapil's era. Bringing up an incident from over four decades ago once again put the spotlight on his strained relationship with former teammates.

His stance on Dhoni, however, has taken a different turn in recent months. Yograj recently said he admires Dhoni and wants him to continue playing for as long as possible. The shift came after former chief selector Sandeep Patil clarified that Yuvraj's omission from the Indian side was not on Dhoni's insistence, but a decision taken by the selectors, who felt he no longer offered the same impact that once made him indispensable.

In fact, Yuvraj had earlier revealed that Dhoni was the one who gave him clarity about his role during his comeback in 2017. The former India captain had informed him that the team management was not looking at him as part of its future plans. The conversation helped Yuvraj come to terms with his situation and played a role in his decision to retire from international cricket in 2019.
