Announcing the move on social media, his new club wrote: "This is more than a signing - it's a statement, a game-changer for both our club and football in the UAE.

"Known for his electrifying talent and skill, Ravel brings world-class experience and flair that will help our team to achieve its goals."

At 31 years of age, Morrison will be hoping to show more of his undoubted quality before hanging up his boots.

Having come through Manchester United's youth set-up, Morrison was regarded as arguably the biggest talent in the club's modern era but failed to reach his potential under Sir Alex Ferguson.

He then moved to West Ham where he spent time on loan with Birmingham City, QPR and Cardiff City before heading to Lazio - a club where he made just eight appearances before joining Mexican side Atlas on loan and then returning to QPR again.

Morrison then joined Swedish outfit Ostersunds and Sheffield United, before joining Middlesbrough on loan, then moved on to Dutch side ADO Den Haag, before coming back to England with Derby County and then going MLS team DC United.

Morrison represented England at U16, U17, U18 and U21 levels but he has played senior international football for Jamaica since 2020.

It was his time at West Ham where fans really got to see a glimpse of what he was capable of when he scored a stunning solo goal in the derby clash with Tottenham in 2013.

In east London he played alongside Kevin Nolan, who spoke openly about how talented the midfielder actually was.

Speaking on talkSPORT Drive in November last year, Nolan said: "On the pitch he was unbelievable. Some of the things he used to do, and you look at Lucas Paqueta now and people like him, Jay-Jay [Okocha], he was a very special talent."

Asked if Morrison regrets not living up to his potential, Nolan said: "I think he does now. I think if you asked the man he'd put his hand on his heart and he is a truthful lad, I think he would.

"I loved working with him, I thought all he done was just sort of wind me up because of the talent he had, and I think that's what in the end, where Sir Alex [Ferguson] sort of got rid of him.

"I think Rio [Ferdinand] spoke really highly of him, all those players at that time, [Wayne] Rooney, everyone. But he just couldn't put all the things that he had on the field, he couldn't sort it out off the field.

"I think he was just a maverick, that's probably the best word to describe him, sort of went by his own rules and no one could tell him otherwise.

"You'd think at some point, 'Yeah we've cracked it, we've got him.'"
