Andy Walker identifies why Adam Idah is starting to look like a 'dangerous' asset for Celtic

Celtic striker Adam Idah was brought back to the club for his goalscoring nous, and he is again beginning to show his expertise as a permanent asset.

Following nine goals in 19 appearances last term, the Bhoys brought the Irishman into the fold for £9.5 million inclusive of add-ons, making him their second-highest-ever purchase behind Arne Engels.

Admittedly, Idah has needed to bide his time and didn’t get on the scoresheet until his fifth appearance in green and white this term against Slovan Bratislava.

Coupling his Champions League strike with a double against Falkirk in the Premier Sports Cup last weekend; the former Norwich City man is starting to make his mark under Brendan Rodgers after an initial groundwork period making up for his lack of a pre-season.

Set to be an important contributor for the Bhoys over the coming months, Andy Walker has identified why the Republic of Ireland international has hit his stride.

Adam Idah’s ‘dangerous’ qualities at Celtic

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, Walker believes Idah’s excellent ‘attitude’ coupled with the service he has got in the last couple of games is helping to highlight how ‘dangerous’ he can be as a focal point in Celtic’s attack.

He stated: “His attitude is absolutely spot on; he’s full of running and desperate to be involved. He came on the other night and got his goal (against Slovan Bratislava); he got his start at the weekend, and albeit the goals came late on, this is someone who really wants to impress.

“Every time he’s given an opportunity, I think he looks dangerous. The reason I think he looks dangerous is that Celtic are getting a lot of quality balls in and around the box. They’re getting a good goalscoring threat from the middle of the park, but they’re getting really productive runs from their wide players.

“The pass from James Forrest the other night, it’s an absolute dream for a striker to get on the end of that. It’s always going to be a one-touch finish, and he did that so well. There was similar into him at the weekend against Falkirk, I think he’s excited at the type of service that he’s getting in and around the box.”

Adam Idah will build on his Celtic lift-off this week

Even in his rustier beginnings back at the club when he started against St Mirren despite not being fully fit, Idah carried a threat, and his runs in behind caused their backline all sorts of problems.

There was also the unfortunate reality of a goal against Heart of Midlothian being ruled out for offside earlier this month, so the signs have been there that he would kick on for a while.

Proving his point over the Bhoys’ last two matches, Idah will now have designs on securing a place in the starting line-up against St Johnstone this weekend.

Should Kyogo Furuhashi be preferred, the Corkonian will have no issue coming off the bench and seeking out another goal or two to give Rodgers a selection dilemma heading into Celtic’s trip to Borussia Dortmund.
