Ruben Amorim reveals what Sir Jim Ratcliffe is telling him amid public Man Utd backing, ‘He wants…’

The results might not be the best under Ruben Amorim, but Sir Jim Ratcliffe gave a loud public backing to him during the international break, and the manager has now given a peek into their private talks.

Hiring Ruben Amorim as Man Utd manager was the first major on-pitch decision taken by Ineos, which means they put all their eggs in his basket.

That is reflected in their staunch commitment towards him, because at no other elite club does a manager survive a year with the results Amorim has had.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe said Amorim will be given three years, but results make anything untenable in the end, which is why the manager gave an interesting peek into the owner’s psyche.

Ruben Amorim reveals Sir Jim Ratcliffe conversation

Even before his public backing, Ratcliffe hasn’t been shy about his admiration for Amorim, and the manager has reciprocated in kind.

Amorim has a footballing structure to rely upon, which would be deemed a luxury for previous managers at Old Trafford who were left to sink or swim alone.

He is in daily conversations with Omar Berrada, Jason Wilcox, and Ratcliffe. He has revealed what Ratcliffe tells him privately amid his loud public backing.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Amorim said: “We are not sending messages and talking about the years, but he’s always saying to me that it’s going to take a while. He [says] all the time that he wants me [at Man Utd] for many years, but he knows and I know how football is.

“It doesn’t change much because Jim [and Omar Berrada] are always sending messages after the games. Everything that he said in the media, he said to me many times.”

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has played an all-in move

Hitching their wagon to Amorim was the logical thing to do at first, but with the team yet to win consecutive games in almost a year with the manager, it’s looking like an increasingly all-in move.

Ratcliffe will either come out of this the other side as a visionary who knew better than anyone else, or he will be seen as the ultimate bluff artist who failed and couldn’t even protect his reputation in the process.

It is up to Amorim to ensure that the former happens, not the latter, because more upheaval is the last thing United need.

That is what Ineos have also realised, which is why Amorim is being given a longer rope than perhaps any other manager post-Sir Alex when results are considered.

An all-in move doesn’t have “average success” or “average failure” as an outcome. It’s one extreme or another for everyone at United now.
