Alex Eala's coach sees plenty of room for improvement despite her rise

Alexandra “Alex” Eala’s coach, Joan Bosch, still sees plenty of room for improvement for the Filipina tennis star despite her rapid rise in the sport.

In an interview with the YouTube channel Diary of a Professional Tennis Coach released last Thursday, Bosch was asked what aspects of Eala’s game could still be improved. The Spanish coach said he believes every part of her game can get better.

“Well, my plan or my idea is that she could improve everything. I mean, you can do many, many better things — from serve, from return, from forehand, from backhand, from volley, from footwork, from endurance, from speed,” Bosch said.

“But it's true that all these things, they are progress, a progression, a process. That's why I know she can do it because with her you really can appreciate the process. She knows how to learn.”

Bosch said Eala is able to apply new lessons to her game, while also embracing practice and setting specific goals for her development.

Eala has previously expressed her appreciation for Bosch’s role in her career, particularly after winning her first WTA title. Bosch, meanwhile, emphasized the strong relationship they have developed as coach and player.

“I’m happy she trusts me, but I'm more happy that I trust her because for me, it's easier to work like that.”

Eala is set to return to action at the US Open, where she will compete in the women’s singles and mixed doubles tournaments alongside Felix Auger-Aliassime. She will also take part in the Stars of the Open exhibition event.
