Spurs' Plans For Mason Melia Become Clearer After Recent Absence

Mason Melia finally completed his long awaited move to Tottenham Hotspur this month, with the 18-year old joining the Premier League club in a League of Ireland record deal worth €1.9million.

Spurs beat out quite a bit of competition for Melia's signature. The St Pat's youngster attracted interest from the biggest clubs in England and Europe, although he felt that a move to North London was the best fit for his development.

A route into the first team would have been a part of that decision, although it remains to be seen how soon such an opportunity could develop.

Spurs' Plans For Mason Melia Become Clearer After Recent Absence

Mason Melia's move to Spurs went through on January 1st, although the striker has yet to feature for the club.

Football London are reporting that Spurs are allowing Melia to recover from a minor back injury before throwing him into the mix at the club. He is likely to train with the first team over the coming weeks, before a decision is taken whether to keep him in London or send him out on loan for the remainder of the season.

The teenager has no shortage of experience at senior level, having made almost 100 first team appearances during his time in Inchicore. As a result, you would imagine that he would be keen to continue at that level in the near future.

Speaking back in December, Spurs boss Thomas Frank said all the parties would take some time before making a decision on the next steps for the player.

We meet him in the club first here on 1 January.

There are a lot of moving parts and then when we know all of the moving parts then we will take the final decision on what we are doing.

It will be interesting to see how this situation plays out over the coming weeks, with Mason Melia clearly very highly rated by Spurs.
