According to TicketData, Alex Eala's first-round matchup against Mary Stoiana has experienced a massive surge in ticket prices.

Once the fixture was announced, the ticket prices for her match soared to $385 as of the afternoon of August 31st, with the price going as high as $468 the day before.

This marks a 132% increase in ticket prices, presumably thanks to Eala's recent rise to prominence in the tennis world.

Eala's recent popularity is due in large part to the massive Filipino diaspora across the world, many of whom managed to almost pack out the Arthur Ashe Stadium during her exhibition appearance on Thursday.

While this isn't Eala's first appearance at the US Open, it does mark the first time she has been seeded, earning the 17th seed thanks to her World No. 18 ranking.

What makes this rise in ticket prices even more noticeable is the fact that prices for other US Open events have remained fairly consistent.

The average get-in ticket price sat at $284 on Monday afternoon, marking just a two-dollar increase compared to the average price three days prior.

Clearly, Eala has become one of tennis' biggest draws, and her performance at the tournament will influence viewership and attendance metrics.

Eala is by no means a favourite to win the tournament yet, but a deep run at the US Open isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Certainly, US Open officials will be hoping that she makes a Cinderella run to the finals, given how her presence at the tournament could allow them to profit off of high-demand ticket prices.
