Inter Milan are considering making a move for Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund this summer as the beaten Champions League finalists seek to accelerate a rebuild of their squad.

Hojlund spent the season as United's first-choice No. 9 but he had an underwhelming campaign, scoring just four goals in 32 Premier League appearances. His record across two seasons at Old Trafford in all competitions stands at 26 goals in 95 appearances.

With Ruben Amorim keen to add attacking reinforcements this summer, Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee could depart to make room in the squad and free up vital funds.

Hojlund's performances at United have attracted criticism since his £64million move from Atalanta, with the fee rising to a potential £72million, but there has been interest from Serie A clubs in taking him back to Italy.

Inter have now joined the race and could make a move for the 22-year-old this summer, although they are beginning a busy summer overhaul without manager Simone Inzaghi, who has left the club and is set to takeover at Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.

The Serie A runners-up were beaten 5-0 by Paris St-Germain in the Champions League final on Saturday and the seismic defeat is likely to lead to an overhaul of what is an ageing squad.

United's attacking rebuild has already begun this window, with Matheus Cunha signing from Wolves in a £62.5million deal, while there is also strong interest in Bryan Mbeumo. The 25-year-old wants to join the club but negotiations with Brentford are only just underway.

Cunha is expected to play as a No. 10, having operated in that position in the same system as Amorim plays at Wolves, and while Mbeumo can also operate as a No. 10 and bring a left-footed option, he could also fill the centre-forward role. United could also look to sign another striker, especially if Hojlund or Zirkzee depart.

United wanted to sign Liam Delap from Ipswich and were willing to pay his £30million release clause, but he opted to join Chelsea after they secured Champions League football.
