Monday, August 4 Toronto Preview: Quarter-finals…

It's down to the last eight in Toronto and the first quarter-finals will be contested on Monday. So grab your Psycho Bunny hat and get ready for a great evening of tennis.

Here’s what to expect on Monday at the 2025 National Bank Open in Toronto.

On-Court Action

The tournament’s No. 1 seed returns to the court Monday as Alexander Zverev battles defending champion Alexei Popyrin. Zverev advanced to the quarters after Francisco Cerundolo retired in the second set of their match on Saturday, while the 18th-seeded Popyrin moved on after a hard-fought three-set win over Holger Rune.

“I think it's just good vibes, good feelings from last year, maybe,” Popyrin said of his nine-match win streak in Canada. “It's just a nice feeling to just play free, and that's what I feel I've been doing this week.”

Zverev has defeated Popyrin in all three of their previous matches, most recently in the round of 16 at the Paris Olympic Games.

In Monday's other quarter-final, Alex Michelsen attempts to continue his underdog run at the NBO as he faces off with Karen Khachanov. Michelsen, the lowest remaining seed in the draw, defeated No. 3 seed Lorenzo Musetti in the third round and looks to knock off the 11th-seeded Khachanov. The pair met earlier this year at the Australian Open, with Michelsen coming out on top.

Three quarter-final matches in the doubles draw will also take place on Monday, starting at 4:30 p.m.

Day 2 of the Wheelchair Tennis tournament continues with two singles and one doubles match starting on Court 1 at 4:30 p.m.
