MORE UNITED STORIES

“The kind of relationship that we had was incredible, because he knew when exactly to put his arm around you but he also knew which player could take a bit of a stronger word or needed a little bit less.

“I think that’s why we had the success at Manchester United that we had. The players wanted to play for him.

“My relationship with the manager, people always talk about the difficult times, we didn’t have many difficult times.

“The manager understood me and I understood what the manager wanted, but we all respected the manager because he was there for us no matter what.”

But it does make you wonder how his career would have panned out had Beckham stayed at Old Trafford his entire career.

He has previously opened up on his Old Trafford exit, revealing that Ferguson had snubbed his calls.

“We just won the league again, but all of a sudden I got a phone call to be told that United had agreed a deal and that was the end of it,” Beckham said on the Stick To Football podcast.

“Even trying to speak to the manager after that, he didn’t want to talk to me.”
