Fuming Roy Keane confronts fan during live Man Utd TV coverage as Jamie Redknapp stunned

Roy Keane, the former Manchester United captain, told a fan he would 'wait for him in the car park' after a tense exchange following Ipswich Town's draw with Manchester United at Portman Road. Keane, who managed Ipswich between 2009 and 2011, had a turbulent time in Suffolk, marked by inconsistent form and clashes with fans, which ultimately led to his dismissal as the club languished in the Championship.

The latest episode in his relationship with Ipswich saw the 53 year old abruptly leave the Sky Sports set on the pitch, where he was working as a pundit alongside Kelly Cates, Izzy Christensen and Jamie Redknapp. As they prepared to return from an ad-break, Keane put down his microphone and approached the nearest stand, engaging in a stern conversation with a fan.

Amid heckling, Keane was heard saying: "Go in the car park and wait until the show's over. I'll wait for you in the car park."

He repeated his challenge to "Meet me in the car park," before being ushered back onto the field by a member of Sky's production staff. Redknapp, who had also left the presentation area, watched on as fans were urged to calm down and Keane made his exit.

The situation escalated as Keane faced further verbal attacks, with one individual dashing across the upper tier to yell "F*** you Keane" as initially reported by Mail Online. This isn't the first time Keane has been involved in altercations with fans; notably, he was headbutted at the Emirates Stadium in September 2023, reports the Mirror.

These confrontations have led Keane to openly state that he doesn't envision a long-term future in punditry. "I love football, but the hassle of matches, getting to games, and the hassle of fans. I was in court a few months ago with somebody headbutting me do you think I enjoy that side of it? Absolutely not," he expressed back in August.

"The games are fine. Getting to the games, parking up, people shouting your name good stuff, bad stuff it's a nuisance. Being a pundit in 10 years, not."

After observing Ruben Amorim's debut as United's manager, Keane didn't shy away from giving a candid analysis on Sky Sports: "He's got big problems," Keane remarked. "The lack of threat in the second half, and Ipswich looked like they'd go on and win. They've not won at home all season. Same problems for Man United, but he's only had a week with them."

He added, "You have to give the man a chance but the threat going forward, it's a huge problem for Man United. It's not good enough."

During his tenure as Ipswich Town manager, Keane only managed to secure 28 victories out of 81 matches. He was given the boot halfway through the 2010/11 season with the Tractor Boys languishing in 21st place in the Championship.
