Robbie Savage admits Alejandro Garnacho did not suit the new Manchester United system that was introduced by Ruben Amorim. As expected the Red Devils lined-up in the 3-4-3 formation that had bought Amorim huge success at Sporting Lisbon. The unique system is largely new to many of the squad and they'll need to adapt to different demands if they are to make a success of it.Garnacho played in the inside forward position, operating largely as a 10 alongside Bruno Fernandes, with Marcus Rashford leading the line. The Argentine's best performances so far in a red shirt have come down the flanks. The width in Amorim's system is provided by the two wing-backs, which in his opening game were Noussair Mazraoui and Amad Diallo. Savage though believes Garnacho needs to occupy one of those roles if he is to perform at his optimum. He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “I don’t think Ruben Amorim’s system suits Alejandro Garnacho. He was used as one of the number tens. I think he is better as one of the wing-backs.”Amorim had to settle for a draw in his opening game as Ipswich fought back to earn a point at Portman Road. Rashford scored within two minutes to give the new manager the dream start, but a stunning strike from Omari Hutchinson levelled the contest. Amorim though, seeing his players in action for the first time, was able to identify new things. He said on Garnacho: "You start discovering things that you didn't know like Garna [Alejandro Garnacho], can hold the ball between lines, you can understand that by seeing the games because he's always open so you try to find these things.Scoring goals has been United's biggest problem for much of the season and Roy Keane was damning in his assessment, citing how the system may change, but the personnel remains the same.He said: "We saw the shape of the team but it is the same players and the same problems. We talk about leopards and spots. Lack of goals and a lack of quality in the second half. Ipswich looked the better team. It's his first game. A lot to take in and it has been a mental week for him [Amorim] but ultimately he will be disappointed."Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
