The Conditions Carlo Ancelotti Gave Neymar To Return With Brazil For The 2026 World Cup

The story of Neymar and the national team of Brazil seemed increasingly unlikely to continue at another World Cup. Injuries, lack of continuity, and constant controversy surrounding the forward had created enormous doubts inside the CBF.

However, according to information published by Brazilian outlet Globo, a direct conversation between Carlo Ancelotti, sporting director Rodrigo Caetano, and Neymar himself became decisive in the striker’s inclusion in Brazil’s final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to Globo, the video call took place just days before the official announcement and served to clearly establish the new conditions Neymar would have to accept upon returning to the Brazilian national team.

One of the most important parts of the conversation reportedly involved Neymar’s new role inside the squad. According to Globo, Ancelotti directly explained to him that he would no longer be Brazil’s captain and that he would not automatically be considered a guaranteed starter in the Italian manager’s system.

The new coaching staff also reportedly detailed several internal rules related to discipline, daily behavior, and media exposure, signaling a major shift compared to previous eras within the Seleção.

Ancelotti’s intention appears to be building a far more balanced national team, one that depends less on a single superstar, especially heading into a tournament as demanding as the FIFA World Cup.

Another key detail revealed by Globo concerns the player’s media environment. According to the report, the conversation even included discussions about reducing Neymar’s social media exposure and limiting some of the distractions surrounding the national team camp.

Despite the strict conditions, Neymar reportedly received the message positively. Sources inside the CBF believe the forward fully understood the current situation and showed a willingness to embrace a different role in exchange for another chance to play at the World Cup.

That attitude reportedly convinced Ancelotti, who by Friday already considered Neymar’s inclusion in the squad almost certain.

During the official presentation of Brazil’s squad, Carlo Ancelotti was completely transparent regarding Neymar’s status within the team.

“I want to be clear and honest. He will play if he deserves it,” the Italian manager stated, making it clear that Neymar will have exactly the same obligations and expectations as every other player in the squad.

Ancelotti also emphasized that he does not intend to build the entire project around one single player, a statement that perfectly reflects the new philosophy he wants to establish with Brazil.

After nearly three years away from the national team and multiple physical setbacks, Neymar will return to the World Cup under completely different circumstances compared to most of his international career.

Now surrounded by stars such as Vinicius Jr., Raphinha, Bruno Guimarães, and several leaders from a new generation, the Brazilian forward will have to prove that he can still be decisive without carrying the entire pressure of a football-obsessed nation on his shoulders.
