Men's Tennis Ramps Up for Big West Championship

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The fourth-seeded University of Hawai'i men's tennis team (10-9, 3-3 Big West) opens the 2026 Big West Championships with a second-round matchup against No. 5 seed UC Davis (10-12, 2-4 Big West) on Thursday, April 23 at 7:00 a.m. HT at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.

STREAK: UH won last match

LAST MEETING: UH and UCD faced off on April 9, a day early than originally scheduled to avoid rainstorms. Hawai'i defeated the Aggies, 4-1 in their last home match of the season.

*This is the second straight season that the 'Bows and Aggies will play each other to start the Big West Championship. Last year, UCD ended UH's season with a 4-1 loss on April 25, 2025.

LAST WEEK: The Rainbow Warriors split their final two regular-season matches, falling at UC Irvine 4-1 before bouncing back with a 4-1 win at UC San Diego. UH's Toa Maeda won his singles match in straight sets at UCSD and both doubles matches with partner Azuma Visaya on Court #2. Maeda's only loss last week came in a hard fought, three-setter against UC Irvine's No. 6 Greg Gamal, 6-3, 4-6, 4-6.

SINGLES PERFORMANCES: Senior Azuma Visaya continues to lead UH with a 9-7 overall record and a 3-1 record in the Big West while playing exclusively on the No. 1 court. He split his matches last week, falling at UCI but sweeping his match at UCSD. Hawai'i's No. 4 Adriano Dzhano won both of his singles matches last week to improve to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in the Big West. Rookie Kent Mueller finished the regular season with a 7-5 overall record.

DOUBLES PLAY: Hawai'i has won the doubles point in nine of its 15 dual matches this season. UH's No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams are tied for the team lead with nine wins apiece. UH's No. 3 duo of Dzhenev and Mueller leads the 'Bows with a 9-3 record overall and with a 3-1 conference mark entering this week. They have won five of their last six decisions with three matches going unfinished. UH's No. 2 duo of Visaya and Maeda finished the regular season on a three-match win streak while recording a 9-6 overall record.
