Fantasy Football Week 8 Tight End Rankings: Tyler Warren, Dallas Goedert

3
Happy National Tight End Day! Or at least the week of. And is a big one for fantasy football because all of the bye weeks. The good news? There have been a lot of good waiver wire tight end adds, and there are a lot of good spot starts. So we’re going to get by just fine, my sweet little fantasy football cherubs. We’ll just plug up those bye week holes and keep this puppy afloat to sink another day.

If you want the season-long rankings for your roster decisions, those can be found at the bottom of the waiver wire article, where it says Yin & Yang Tight End. In this article, I share my thoughts for Week 8 for half PPR. If you want my rankings for every position and every format, those are available to Fantasy Alarm Members here. We actually have our Spooktober deal running now, where you can get 20% off the monthly price for the rest of the NFL season. There’s no better time than now to sign up - especially if you have fantasy basketball drafts coming up!

As always, I’ll be available for comments or concerns in the Twitter or Reddit threads, so feel free to weigh in there with your own thoughts - or any questions you have for this week!

*Players highlighted in red have injury concerns that we need to monitor

Week 8 Tight End Rankings: Tier 1

These guys (along with Trey McBride, who is on bye) check the most boxes - especially the big ones like route participation and target share. Tyler Warren is already a good TE, but he also has the gadget threat to throw for or run for a TD in any given week. He’s already had carries and attempted a pass. Surtain will have one of Lamb or Pickens for most plays, and Ferguson leads the league with 12 receptions vs. man-to-man, which translates well to the redzone.

Week 8 Tight End Rankings: Tier 2

This tier has the two guys who can “do more with less”. Are they target machines? No. But only George Kittle, Tucker Kraft, and Mark Andrews have multiple 60+ yard plays in the same season over the last decade or so. And they are threats to score any week. I did a little breakdown below on why I’m not worried about George Kittle (but I am worried about the Falcons D for TEs). This matchup vs. Houston isn’t great either, but he’s still Kittle.

Week 8 Tight End Rankings: Tier 3

Tier 3 are guys that we would love to have in the lineup - if they were healthy. Goedert did well against the Giants last time around, plus AJ Brown is nicked up. Dalton Kincaid leads the league in yards per route run; we just need more snaps for him. We’ll update these guys on Sunday at noon like we do every week.

Week 8 Tight End Rankings: Tier 4

This is a big tier with a lot of close calls, so feel free to go with your gut in this range. If you have Goedert or Kincaid, you have the green light to start Gadsden tonight over them if you would like, but that’s your call based on injury designation. He’s still third or fourth in that target pecking order, but they should have to throw a ton again with the line issues. Kelce is Kelce and offers a decent floor in most weeks - last week, they only played three quarters of meaningful football, or he would have done more.

Kyle Pitts and Evan Engram quietly offer a great floor. Pitts is second in route participation and a number of stats I shared here. Since Engram returned from injury, the only TE that has gotten more targets than him is Trey McBride. He gets a potential shootout with the Cowboys this week. The WR injuries plus matchups have made Cade Otton and Dalton Schultz pretty darn good spot starts here.

Week 8 Tight End Rankings: Tier 5

Ertz is Ertz, but he’ll have a backup QB. Fannin would be higher if Njoku were out, but he’s gotten two practices in. Henry and Andrews are fishing for touchdowns to some degree, but it’s not a bad spot to fish this week. Hockenson has a tough matchup with Derwin James, but the targets should be decently consolidated among him, JJ, and Addison.

Week 8 Tight End Rankings: Tier 6

I actually like the upside of this tier. The Jets are a mess, but that means they don’t have many places to throw the ball. Juwan Johnson might be over the ankle injury he suffered against the Bills, but I’d like to see one more decent game before we lock him back in. And Colston Loveland gets a game without Cole Kmet potentially here, which has me wanting to have him stashed on my bench, maybe not in my lineup yet. But with bye weeks, he’s a fun spot start.

Week 8 Tight End Rankings: Tier 7

I really don’t trust anyone here for various reasons. Theo Johnson has a brutal matchup, for instance. Njoku is banged up, and the Steelers' tight ends are a nightmare to rank. Chig has been bleeding snaps to Gunnar Helm, same with JT Sanders to Tommy Tremble. Noah Fant is being a two-target monster WR.

Week 8 Tight End Rankings: Tier 8

This is the Taysom Hill tier. The only difference between brave and foolish sometimes is whether you live to tell the tale.
