Idrissa Gana Gueye left gutted after what Everton have announced

Everton are preparing themselves for what is set to be the biggest summer in the club’s recent history.

The Friedkin Group landed on Merseyside with a significant amount of work needing to be done, and they have made a strong start.

The appointment of David Moyes has proven to be a masterstroke, with Everton’s fortunes completely transformed.

Everton are expecting a big summer transfer window, and there is even more to unfold off the pitch.

Some big contract decisions are needing to be made, too.

Idrissa Gana Gueye is expected to remain at Everton, with the club keen to keep their 35-year-old midfielder beyond his current deal.

However, the Senegal international has been left disappointed by something the club have done over recent days.

On Friday, it was announced Everton’s director of football, Kevin Thelwell, would be moving on at the end of the season.

Everton have appointed Angus Kinnear to become their new CEO when he leaves Leeds United over the coming months.

And this decision has sparked a reaction from some of the Everton players, including Gueye, who took to social media to express his thoughts.

‘Coming back to Everton felt like coming home, and I have to thank Kevin Thelwell for making that happen,’ he said.

‘From day one, he showed how much he cared about this club, always fighting to make it stronger, even in the toughest times. We all know the challenges Everton has faced.

‘The last three years, but through it all, Kevin gave everything to help the team move forward.

Everton is more than just a football club, it’s an institution built by the people who give their heart and soul to it. Everyone who comes here plays a part in its history and growth.

‘Kevin has definitely left his mark. Wishing him the best for what’s next!’

Gueye was not alone, with Abdoulaye Doucoure also wishing Thelwell good luck for his future endeavours away from Merseyside.

Although Everton have struggled at times on the pitch, these messages just go to show how he has impacted those at the club during their struggles with PSR.

Thelwell may have been fronting new Everton contract for Gueye

The midfielder is one of the players who is set to see his contract run out at Everton over the coming months.

It is believed Everton are keen to extend Gueye’s contract, but nothing has been finalised just yet.

Thelwell brought the Senegal international back to Merseyside following his move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2019.

Gueye has proven to be one of Everton’s top performers this season and a mainstay in Moyes’ starting XI.

There may now just be a few questions being asked about how Thelwell’s imminent exit could impact some of the contract decisions being made on Merseyside.
