Tom Holland calls getting ghosted by Erling Haaland 'humbling'

One of Tom Holland's recent bids for connection went unnoticed, leading the actor to call the experience "humbling."

During a July 13 appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," Holland, after being pressed by the late-night TV show host, confessed that Norwegian soccer star Erling Haaland ignored him when the actor slid into his DMs.

"Yes, and I'll tell you what. That is exactly the type of humbling experience that is important for actors. You know, you're like, 'I'll text him. I'll take him to dinner.' Not even a response," Holland said.

The "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" actor added: "Not an excuse, not 'I'm busy tonight. I'm playing football.' Nada."

Holland felt called to reach out to Haaland after spotting him in June at the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix.

"I was at Monaco. I was watching Lewis (Hamilton) race, and I saw him," Holland said. "He was (in) like a hospitality suite across from me, and I just thought I'd shoot my shot. Send him a text. And then, you know, I never imagined I'd talk about it on live television, but here we are."

Tom Holland still open to dinner with Erling Haaland

While Holland is still interested in having dinner with Haaland, he joked that he's unsure whether the soccer star would actually agree, especially after "the other day."

The 30-year-old was seemingly referencing the World Cup match between England and Norway on July 11, which ended in a 2-1 victory for England, Holland's home country. England and Argentina are scheduled to go head-to-head July 15.

Fallon joked that Haaland was "probably hurting a little bit" after the loss, to which Holland replied: "A little bit."

Holland then gushed about Haaland's athletic prowess, calling the footballer "incredible."

"I mean, he's an absolute legend," Holland added.
