Tonight’s episode saw Freddie make the emotional video as he recovered at his family home where he ended up being a recluse for seven months.

He revealed he suffered from nightmares, flashbacks and ‘shouldn't have survived’ the Top Gear crash, which saw him airlifted to hospital from the Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey.

Freddie was in a three-wheel roadster as he filmed an episode of the BBC motoring show with co-stars Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris.

As a result the show was cancelled and he received £9m in compensation.

The father-of-four said: “I am struggling already and I need help. I really am.

"I’m not the best at asking for it.

"I need to stop crying every two minutes.

“I genuinely should not be here after what happened. It’s going to be a long road back and I’ve only just started.

“I’ve got to look at the positives, I’ve got another chance, and I’m going to go at it. I’m seeing that as how it is - a second go.”

Next week, the programme will also show how taking his young cricket team to India helped him overcome the ordeal when they visited an orphanage.

Becoming teary again, he says: "We’ve all had things we’ve had to get through - me included.

"But you see that, and it pales into insignificance in comparison.

"You come to a place like this and you see all these kids, it’s inspiring, because all of them have had hardship in their lives.

“It’s bizarre, I’m getting quite emotional as I’m speaking...I’m going to have to put my sunglasses on!"

Although taking a group of wannabe cricket pros to India was delayed by a year due to Freddie's recovery, he was determined to make the trip happen.

In tonight’s show the Ashes hero is seen journeying to Kolkata to begin their adventure and next week viewers will see the teenage lads, who come from a variety of backgrounds, go on personal journeys of discovery.
