MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The 52nd-ranked Columbia women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to the Memphis Tigers in nonconference action at the Leftwich Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.Columbia (6-3) secured the early edge by taking two of three doubles matches. Michelle Li and Amber Yin delivered a 6-1 win over Alicia Mall and Clemence Thouard at No. 2. Emily Baek and Sophia Wang followed with a 6-3 victory against Rebecca Frant and Natalia Koppova at No. 3 to clinch the point.The No. 1 match between Gayathri Krishnan and Sabrina Lin and Memphis' Sofia Mykhailets and Emma Dvorackova was tied, 5-5, when play was halted.In singles, Memphis (2-8) won four matches to secure the team victory. A dramatic win on court three clinched it for the Tigers, who have now won two straight after starting the year 0-8.Margaret Hui and Yin picked up Columbia's two singles wins. Hui rallied past Thouard, 6-2, 5-7, 6-1, at No. 5. Yin added a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Frant at No. 6.Memphis earned straight-set wins at the top two spots, with Mykhailets defeating Krishnan, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1 and Mall topping Wang, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2.At No. 3, Koppova outlasted Baek, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5, and Dvorackova closed the match with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win over Li at No. 4.Columbia returns home for a Friday afternoon doubleheader against Marshall and Wagner.
